I mean, if one defines prog by certain criteria such as time signatures and stuff like that that make of Yes or Genesis the classic examples of "standard prog" sound then yeah, Floyd aren't prog
I don't think that's the correct definition of prog though, so

Rock that breaks the mold of the standard pop-structure of verse-chorus-verse-chorus and uses more sophisticated, less conventional instrumentation and musicianship that borrows from other genres like jazz and classical. That’s how I always saw the genre as.

"what is prog, how do you define prog"
There is no strict definition, that's how I see it at least. I mean, the consensus is that stuff like this album is prog. It's not only people that's not into music that see it as prog but also critics, music communities (like here or RYM) and even music scholars.
Chrimzon named a few of the elements of prog that proof how open the concept is. While it is true that genres help a lot to define music and that most of the time it is easy to fit an album into an specific genre, the truth is that that isn't always the case. It's art we're talking about, not hard science, and concepts are malleable. So I don't get why some people spend so much time saying stuff like "this X album ain't prog" on many threads (not directed at you Park, it's just something I've seen many times in here). It's not like I'm saying Sex Pistols are prog but it's not black and white either. There are grays in between and Floyd is one case, just like other bands which are seen as prog by both the mainstream and specialized sources like Supertramp, ELO or Tull that still don't fit into the more restrictive definition of it.
The definition of prog as something that has to meet specific time signatures or tempos is something that you see people on music forums debating sometimes, but it has never been the consensus neither for the masses nor historians or journalists which agree on it been formed by loosely related acts of different styles
So while I may have, like everyone, a definition of what "is" prog, the point I'm trying to make is that it is an open concept that's not set in stone

yeah I think this is prog, just not the side of prog I favor
i dont think the popular critical concept of prog is useful either though. it's always jokes about capes and solos
