i'm not saying there aren't reasons to hate America, but it's not the worst place ever. American media doesn't help

Everyone hates the US bc they are hypocrites.
|

Here they are condemning Russia for fucking around in the Middle East when for the last 20 or so years they have sought to destroy it. But that more your government not your loudmouth tourists that pour through here.

no one thinks america is the worst place ever. they're just opposed to how the US has acted on the world stage p. much since ww2
again, uk isn't much better in that respect. wish people here/there would get that

i'm middle eastern... and russia is terrible ugh, but i don't deny that the US messed up the middle east big-time. the US and britain are mostly to blame for the current state of affairs
|
| |
I've just never understood the international policy of the US. its baffling the sheer amount of shit their government dreams up and actually enacts.

"economically the FN isn't particularly right wing though. this is the case with many if not most nationalist parties. they prey on the less educated working class. rich people either vote left or for the neoliberals"
Depends, back in the day the NSDAP could not at all mobilize the working class (they were usually leaning very left, i.e. communist party - later socialist party) They were mostly favored by the big industrialists. The middle class was mostly voting center or liberal.
"it's amazing how few people realise this. most young people look towards the US with derision and I'm like dude, here isn't much better"
To be entirely honest, I think this applies to all "Anglosaxon heritage" countries to some degree or another.
"I've just never understood the international policy of the US. its baffling the sheer amount of shit their government dreams up and actually enacts."
Pretty much this.
Also, people don't "hate America" - as others have pointed out people are opposed to the political shenanigans the U.S. government is pulling and dislike certain societal tendencies (like dumb people who don't understand constitutitional rights).

hey guys! congress doesn't do shit, am I right?! *high five

Comparatively the U.S. congress actually is less active.
But Congress is not even the biggest issue, state legislatures are much more of a clusterfuck and nobody takes them seriously despite them passing relevant bills.

but some people definitely do hate/resent the US which is understandable tbh

Album Rating: 3.5
Again, I don't think that is generally the case - even if people say so themselves I'd wager they're usually referring to what was noted above.
|
| |
maybe what you're saying is true for people living in countries with white hegemony but to say Palestinians for example do not resent the US is ridiculous

I don't think it has to do with "white hegemony" but with very specific ideologies, not everyone from the middle east or central Asia categorically hates the U.S., either.
|
| |
i never said everyone but there exists definite resentment for anyone who knows the history. and no it doesn't strictly have to do with anything i just meant people of European ancestry or people who grew up in white countries. they don't have immediate experiences like colonized peoples which obviously influences perception

Album Rating: 3.5
I'm well aware of that, I was just pointing to the fact that even if they did have that experience it doesn't necessarily imply anything.
There's also a bit of a difference than having been colonized and the influence of imperialism. (the former applying more to the U.K. and the latter applying more to the U.S.)
|
| |
not that it matters but Palestinians were my example, reference to colonialism suits the situation more than imperialism. the US supports Israel which might be considered the product of colonialism

itt: people thinking that politics only extends to america's influence
also agreed british politics is fucked up right now, has been ever since Tories got in. Hopeful that Corbyn delivers on all the promises he has made regarding possible election - seems like an actual leader of the people and for now I'm all aboard that hype train.

Australia isn't much better. We are currently being bent over by China and have changed PM's way too many times for anyone to give half a fuck.
Our only dec PM was outed because most of our government was too misogynistic to let a female run the country.
