Yeah, but he's playing the whole, "Oh, I just don't care what people think" card which is either a lie, because all artists want to be appreciated, or if he REALLY thinks that then he's going down the same road as Mustaine and his "everything I play is pure gold" schtick, and we all know where that leads.

Well he doesn't really care, why do you think he veered off into a direction that HE and the band wanted to go in?

maybe he was just satisfied that he made something he really liked

in terms of having others appreciate it he's had that with the metal albums for almost 20 years so i think after all that time he would be ok do just do something he really liked, and Heritage is something he has wanted to do for many years.

As long as he keeps making good music, that is. Honestly, the problem with Heritage is that it's pretty boring in parts and often drags. Watershed had the same problem too, but at least it had the added dynamic of teh mehtulz to shake things up and keep things interesting, and it isn't as well written, IMO, as Damnation.

The second half of Folklore is actually pretty rad and could have made for a classic Opeth track.

I still really like The Devil's Orchard, but I can't get into anything else on this album.

Duno what you people are on about... this was the album that got me into opeth. I especially like Heritage, The Devil's Orchard, I Feel The Dark, Slither, Nepenthe, Haxprocess, Famine, The Lines In My Hand, Folklore oh and Marrow Of The Earth

This is fascinating in terms of songwriting but boring in terms of listening value. I don't think that should make sense, but it does here
