Rush - Hemispheres is the first that comes to mind for me
In The Court of the Crimson King is another fantastic drum album as well

"And just a whole wreckload of DM albums. "
Yeah he did specify "rock" albums, although calling Tool rock is sort of debatable

I did, but I kind of meant all genres including death metal if that is what you were referring to. I mean I love some death metal and some technical drumming and blast beats and what not. But technicality doesn't equal best to me. If Danny Carey was in a death metal band and the music called for it, I'm sure he would tear it up. I'm not sure I can say the same for the opposite situation if they were to write a part for a Tool album. I do really appreciate stuff like Gorguts and Ulcerate. but i digress as i am off topic. Point is danny carey destroys this album.

I agree here but when we start arguing stuff like:
"I'm not sure I can say the same for the opposite situation if they were to write a part for a Tool album."
I mean it may be right but there's no way to really know. If we include DM though, Behemoth's drummer has crazy technicality but is also able to vary it up during their slower passages and keep it interesting.
Also, I've always loved Katatonia's drummer for how interesting he can make his parts given that the music isn't particularly flashy.

Well, first of all "rock" is more of an umbrella term than a genre. And second, what you said.
"I did, but I kind of meant all genres including death metal if that is what you were referring to. I mean I love some death metal and some technical drumming and blast beats and what not. But technicality doesn't equal best to me."
Who said anything about technicality?
"If Danny Carey was in a death metal band and the music called for it, I'm sure he would tear it up. I'm not sure I can say the same for the opposite situation if they were to write a part for a Tool album."
Pretty irrelevant point. Drummers are also rarely major songwriters.
I would also go ahead and say that stating any drum performance is "the best" kind of "eh", there's too much stuff out there with too many variables.

"I like these guys but I never fell in love with them like everyone who heard them play something other than 4/4."
implying that people love them mainly for odd time signatures?

Time signatures are cool and all but this band is all about Maynard, and their awesome sound for me. Justin fucking shreds on that bass it's ridiculous. So many reasons why I love this album alone but it's definitely Justin and Maynard that really do it for me.
