Opeth are ten times more progressive in comparison to both Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree.
Instrumental wank and 20 minute songs isn't progressive unless it's tasteful and forward thinking, and neither is making a
career off of regurgitating Pink Floyd and King Crimson sounds with a britpop timbre. The older I get, the more Steven Wilson
annoys me. It's sad that's he's essentially the poster boy of modern Prog.

Still love Wilson

The older I get, the more DT annoys me. Something can still be progressive without being forward thinking and have a lot of solos, but doesn't mean it's good
Still love Wilson [2]

Agreed, especially post SFAM DT.

That was in response to you saying that Opeth are more progressive than DT by the way. I was arguing against it

Both bands made some very fresh music for their time. Both stopped doing that as well, though DT's fall from grace is worse

Couldn't agree more Omy.
I would say that both bands are more progressive than PT though

Look at PT's change in style, from psych to pop rock to prog metal, all while having a good dose of
experimental flavour. It's funny how even as I know the progression I haven't really thought of PT as
being as progressive as DT.

Does progressive music necessarily mean a change in style though?
