To me this album begins their shift from the melodic black/death metal riffs somewhat awkwardly mixed with acoustic and prog rock elements to a more streamlined, complex, and ultimately more original sound they perfected on SL and BP.

IMO they became somewhat mainstream after this, although I'm well
aware that I'm in the minority.

Nice to see some love for Morning clim.

I love Orchid and Morningrise too but their 2000s albums are more listenable, but yeah sometimes I miss the old sound too. It wasn't always cohesive, but it was still amazing. Advent might have my favorite acoustic parts of all their songs.

Don't worry clim; we may disagree, but I think you're a cool user. At least you don't
get butthurt over a disagreement.

@danny i know what you meant, but being huge/popular isnt the same as being mainstream. these guys blew up and got

lots of recognition after blackwater park, but that doesnt make them mainstream. most of their albums have songs in the

6-12 minute range that follow no set formulas. the only opeth album id call "mainstream" by any stretch of the

imagination is damnation
