I guess this album starts at track 5...being a late converge fan i always struggle with the incomprehensible vocals when compared to the last 3 albums...but i really dig this album after track 5. And its impossible for me not to like tracks like Plagues, Grim Heart/ Black Rose, Orphaned, Lonewolves, Trophy Scars, To the Lions...now im at 4 cause im completely onto this guys!

This is probably the only band with a relentless 'core style vox' where I actively enjoy everything I've heard, remarkable really considering I'm not usually a fan. There's just something special about these guys.

I have Neurosis, Cult of Luna & Acid Bath 5s so maybe that's a complete lie, I can't really describe what I mean. These are more prominent & regular hardcore vox than in those bands I guess. Post-metal/sludge style ones in particular tend to be more palatable.

totaly agree...the way manage to be extreme, raw and rough, but emotional at the same time without being lame. In this article Jacob talks about he's focus in being more decipherable:

I like the 'core style vox', i just wish sometimes he was a little more decipherable, i don't need to understand, just to feel he's actually saying those words

To the Lions slaps so hard. Love how Weight of the World segues into the title track.

sux. That's a good song but the fact that it's the best here speaks volumes, relative to the best songs on other C albums

The worst Converge album, even more so than the debut.

Absolutely not.

Absolutely it's the worst of their discog, this is completely unfocused, and while the chaos would normally be entertaining, here it's just boring.

I agree that it feels unfocused and largely half baked, yet there is a lot of wonderful material here and I still find it thoroughly enjoyable. They just needed to spend more time refining their ideas and I think it could have been a classic. I would rank it 5th (in a discography of 9, for those who don't know offhand).
