I found this "Just okay" so far, but am willing to deeper and change that take. It's got shredding, it's got riffs, and great vocals, too. But I kind of feel the songs are maybe too long for their own good, or something. Have to revisit and see if my idea is unfounded.

Album of the year. Difficult for something else to top this. Hope Without exists!
For me its Liberty = The Orchard > Fishook > Grandfather's Axe > Mouthpiece = The Mariner

Absolutely loving this, barely listened to anything else since this dropped. Fishhook and The Orchard are my faves

Ok having time to properly digest this one I probably have my over PTH rankings as:
Volition >= Palimpsest > Fortress > Kezia >= Within > Scurrilous >= Pacific Myth > A Calculated Use of Sound.
|
| |
If I really had to go in order of what I choose to listen to here is how it goes:
Scurrilous > Fortress > Palmpsest = Within > Volition > Kezia >>> Pacific Myth > A Calculated
|
| |
The Scurrilous rating on this site is absolutely criminal. I understand everyone having their preference, but there is no way that one is significantly behind the others. Calculated Use of Sound is really good under the context that they were basically 8-year-olds and not professional musicians yet. Pacific Myth is the only one that I really don't like for some reason

Like this album a lot, but definitely not as much as my favs Fortress and Palimpsest. Need more listens to fully decide where it lands. Liberty Spike is a real gut punch for me due to recent life events. Maybe my favorite track so far?
"These guys are the musical equivalent of ADHD"
I would say Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas wins that title.

I re-did a play through of the discog
Fortress > Kezia > Palimpsest > Volition > Within > Pacific Myth > Scurrilous
I overrated Palimpsest of a 0.25 imho, or underrated Kezia for a decade idk. Disc is a collection of super creative post hardcore. To pull something like that on your debut man.
Scurrilous I had been there, I remember the disappointment where the lyrics were really just mega plain. It has some good songs, but all in all Volition is better at doing the same thing. Still a 3/3.5.
Palimpsest has the best modern PtH songwriting, it's so well structured. And they seemed like the lyrics finally had something to say versus their prev discs. Also the "epic" / historical structure coming back in some of the themes, etc.
I think I still prefer Volition over Within but see them on a similar range

Interesting take, I think I swap Palimpsest and Volition with the Fortress and Kezia rankings solely because I find the more personable lyrics more engaging than the high-concept stuff. but like those 4 are top tier PTH.
For me Scurrilous lyrical issues are easily explained by fact that a song with as powerful an issue as Tandem's is fails to affect me the way it should.

Feather nailed it. Scurrilous is EASILY their best, then Fortress and "who cares" after that tbqh.

I'm still waiting on my vinyl for this one, crazy considering how easy its been getting all the other ones from SheetHappens. Is vinyl production capacity still effed?
|

I am not a vinyl collector, so I couldn't tell you if it's different, but I received my CD from them one month after the album was officially released. I reached out to them, and they told me they were behind on their shipping orders.
