I'm just glad we are past the mass over-wanking of this band, people treated it like love child of Jesus and sliced bread. Now I'm waiting for the same thing to happen to Haken (albeit to a lesser extent), especially after people simped hard for them after hearing from their master Mike Portnoy about the band.

Yeah I learned at a young age that the “wow you sure are good with that instrument can you just jack off with it in front of me while some douchebag sings” kind of music isn’t for me.

and there is a fine line between technical proficiency and masturbatory and sometimes they blur, which separates great prog and bad prog (almost all of it, including this, Dream Theater etc etc)

hilarious this thing sits at a 3.8 yet half this thread is the same couple users repeatedly shitting on it. will never understand wasting so much energy talking about an album i don't like from a 25yr old band i've never liked at any point.

It doesn't take much energy at all. Give it a shot.

While I enjoy the album, I also enjoy consistent hating and committing to the bit

goddamn I really wish I could remember the original review summary for Jane Doe and just copy/paste The Blue Nowhere into that.

That guy should be tarred and feathered for changing that shit, please for the love of god someone tell me they remember what that summary originally was.

Haken is like the only long winded prog band that doesn't bore me in the slightest

to me the novelty of their schtick has just completely wore off me. What used to be cool or new or weird now feels contrived and overdone and they seem creatively bankrupt. But that’s just my opinion

Yea, Haken bore me too. Which is a shame, I'd love to love them. But lately I am burned out on prog and it doesn't look like that's gonna change soon. Haken and Tesseract are two bands I gave way too many tries
