Lemon is very Brand New, but not sure we're ready for that conversation.

"I get the feeling that calling Lemon very Dillinger may have been sarcasm"
rowhaus maybe but there's def been enough of a "this is their black bubblegum!" sentiment elsewhere online that i thought it was worth deconstructing a bit
overall i feel like i'm just kinda over these newer core bands (greyhaven being another example) constantly being compared to the dillingers and etids even after (imo) they've clearly outgrown those comparisons.

I was just trying to pinpoint why I didn't like these guys' previous record and to me it had ETID-isms (and TDEP) which are on the spectrum of metalcore that I tend to enjoy less. That said, I've read a few on here saying they prefer this one so I look forward to giving it a few spins!

Celebrity Therapist is one of my fav core albums of the decade and I'd say that this is a bit better. Guess that woukd qualify this as one of my fav core AOTD as well. Yes I know it has been out for 37 seconds lmao.

Oh yeah, there's a Black Bubblegum comparison in terms of being the poppiest song of a mathcore band. But the two songs themselves are nothing alike. Lemon is straight pop, not a poppy/soft mathcore song.
And yeah, I hope we grow out of the Dillinger comparisons a bit. Especially with this release. This is original and pushing boundaries, not just worship of Dillinger

"there's def been enough of a "this is their black bubblegum!" sentiment elsewhere online that i thought it was worth deconstructing a bit"
Yeah that's exactly what I was getting at. Greg & co. always had a snazzy little clean track to pair with the chaos. In the context of the record it greatly reminded me of that. Plus I find the vocals to be notably similar.

This isn't even close to Dillinger worship lol.

Yeah, ultimately this doesn’t sound much like ETID or DEP. Definitely it’s own thing.

yeah, their sphere of influence certainly leans much harder into tDEP (of the two) but they’ve carved their own sound, especially by this point

I would say they probably owe more to The Number Twelve Looks Like You than anyone else mentioned so far.

Douchebag Safari already moving from potentially the one song I didn't really like to potentially my favorite.
Biggest complaint at the moment: Drum part at 3:20 of Country Song that sounds like the drummer of a Buttrock band just got his name announced at a concert and he's showing off his skillz

"You're telling me that the cleans specifically don't sound like like Jonny Craig era DGD AT ALL?"
not at all my guy

Always a couple that gotta show up and go “ I know everyone loves this but actually…” then they inevitably slap a 3 or a 3.5 on it for plausible deniability, and proceed to try to convince the rest of us it isn’t that good lmao
this and lpwp hand in hand walking into the sunset at the top of my aoty list in mid may

that’s because there’s a history of people viewing those scores as “negative” when they shouldn’t be, especially if the average is significantly higher

“not at all my guy”
I should have just said “scene kid”, instead of being specific.
