I will never forget that my first exposure to Burzum was some dickhead accusing Bullet for My Valentine of plagiarizing "War" on Hand of Blood. They sound nothing alike moron

Had this been 15 years ago I would’ve clowned on you for even bringing up that band

but who cares anymore

I was just vibing to a teenage favorite that I still love and someone had to be like "ACKSHUALLY THIS PLAGIARIZED VARG" and then when I listened to the song they allegedly cribbed it sounded horrific to me

Accusing BFMV of ripping off Burzum when Burzum is basically a Kanye cover act

What mental gymnastics

I remember that controversy lol. And that burzum riff is just a ripoff of a Bathory riff anyway haha

This is definitely getting better on subsequent listens. Appreciating a lot of sections that I didn't really pick up on the first few times.

A few metal bands I like can bring those feelings for me. I could definitely see this band doing that for people, although I haven't felt that from this album yet.

for emotion specifically, within BM my slightly left-field opinion would be Scarcity (specifically “Aveilut”)

Varg is a piece of trash but his bm albums up to and including Belus and Fallen are all essential. His first 4 albums literally invented atmospheric black metal as mentioned earlier in the thread. People complain about it just sounding like noise and being too repetitive when that's quite literally the entire point of it lol.

They really tightened all the screws on this didn't they... Every song is engaging from beginning to end. My overall music taste leans more towards the post-rock side, but somehow these songs are better with shorter post-rock segments.

I wonder what their setlist will look like for the tour (im seeing them in Toronto).

I think doberman and winona will be added?
