Poppy herself sounds fab and there are a couple of winners here (Center Falling Out should have been the blueprint for every heavy track, closer is a rare good Poppy pop moment)
but jfc everything else about it is cookie cutter bollocks, sounds completely interchangeable with every other vapid trash act that's been larping on the coattails of BMTH's sales figures for the last decade or so. metal 'karaoke' is about the sum of it, this is a million miles away from either the edge or the viciousness EAT rocked so well. massive wasted opportunity, not a bad record but heartbreakingly tepid. fire jordan f*sh immediately smdh i thought this would be her first and only good LP

It's funny, I do think much of the instrumentation is a bit vapid and hollow but tbh Poppy's voice and impressive emotional spectrum is honestly just SO fucking good that imo it basically patches up all the holes. I'm not sure I totally see the modern BMTH comparisons outside of them both being metal in a v bare essence and having massive pop sensibilities.

Kinda wish Jordan wasn't involved just so people could stop the BMTH comparisons. Minus the production I can't see how this resembles BMTH. Like what era of BMTH does Push Go or the title track sound like? The melodies and riffs in all the tracks that lean a bit more towards the generic really don't sound like the sort of stuff BMTH employs. The only track that even kind of feels like them is New Way Out. Idk feels like a kinda lazy comparison.

one of the more random sput hype trains I can remember

This is not good. Every time she releases something new I succumb and listen, and every time it just sounds so... tryhard...
Barring a few good songs here and there, I don't ever see myself embracing her music.

There are definitely a few specific comparisons I'd make with TTS/Amo era BMTH tracks, but I'd need another listen and (absolute dealbreaker) to go back to at least one of those records — but the main point isn't specific to BMTH themselves so much as the way the opened the floodgates to frictionless arena-ready acts galore, none of whom have the faintest shred of grit, none of whom leave any lingering impression
Most of these instrumentals reek of that to me, get that generative backing-track metal tf out of here and get that girl a producer who's done more than pander to Kerrang for the last decade

Im just here for Poppy and fun music personally. This isnt the type of music i take super seriously. This album has enough stylistic variation that most popcorn core fails with where they are good at one thing and just okay at another. Poppies vocals are the centepiece and thats fine for me atm.
Is this the best thing ever this year? No not even close, is it fun and enjoyable? Yes
Edit: i can also gurantee i will enjoy this more than counterparts's ep?/record?

That's v fair, and I'm much more frustrated with how this alb fails to raise the bar for Poppy than any notable point where she drops it — defs hoping to give it another whirl with lower expectations and see what it can dish out re. cheap trolls) thrills
and yeah lol if nothing else, it's vastly preferable to counterparts' latest mantrum ep

Good stuff, I don't know who Poppy even is but I enjoy this a lot. So much, in fact, that I bought tickets to her concert with Babymetal next summer.

Still surprised no one has called out the blatant LP and Disturbed ripping off. Mostly in agreement with what Johnny is saying

I assume they're referring to the little Down With the Sickness noise she makes for two seconds in New Way Out.
No idea what the Linkin Park ripoff would be.
