Def not mine I'd take 6 of their 7 albums over it lol, but it does rip and go hard and slap willies things of that nature

Yeah I'd put anything other than Current above it, but it does indeed slap.

This is an awesome addition to their discog though for me cause it’s so unique. Even if I mostly agree I prefer their main sound

Hmm Brendan did an interview about this and it actually kinda sounds like they want to go heavier overall. I would be fine with that if they found a way to blend the lead work in with all the chugs. My main criticism of almost all of their heavy tracks is that they drop the leads for the most part and the riffs are really bland. If they wanna go heavy and not be boring about it I think they need to find a good middle ground rather than just shoving one of the most iconic parts of their sound aside.

spot on. eulogy def felt like the culmination of what they were doing beforehand so i am, despite being ehh on this, excited for the possibility of them pushing themselves away from that, but they gotta do it in a way that doesnt just feel like chug salad

“I hate writing and recording. It’s cool at the end when everything is done, but it’s not exciting in the moment. My excitement comes from the atmosphere of the live shows. And the live shows are at their best when they’re crazier. When we’re playing the pretty parts of our songs, or those instrumental interludes, I’m generally just standing with my back to the audience, hitting my vape, wondering what the fuck to do. On these songs, I’ve [always got something to do]. It’s easier [on an EP] as well. There's not too much on the line. It's not like this big, full-length, $100,000 record. No, we were at Will’s house for two weeks just trying something – and I’m excited to see if it works. Singing is too hard, anyway. Screaming is easy. We just want to play fight music!”

I would be so bored if they did an entire LP in this style unless they could match or surpass the quality of Martyr on every single track. The back half of this falls off hard imo. Chuggy breakdowns into slower chuggier breakdowns, literally any band in this scene can do that shit.

Totally agree. If this were like a 40 or even 30 minute record entirely in this style I would not like it nearly as much but I love what they’re doing here. Nice little surprise this close to the end of the year.

I completely missed that, yeah that is kinda disappointing. Especially since now I’m really actually starting to get into them smh

Wasn’t there already some drama with him though, like I remember after one of their records (got no idea which) he made some post that made it seem like they were calling it quits? I feel like I remember it being a huge deal

Wasn't Brendan straight edge until TDBHAH came out? I would like if they returned to their more positive/uplifting sound they had back then, but obviously did something new with it too

Current has some of their worst songs for sure but I love how the good tracks on it like Jumping Ship and The Constant sound like they were made by a different band that was full of positive, happy hardcore kids lol

I feel like We Forgive is the closest they ever came to returning to the older sound, I def want more songs like that than the absolute bore that is this EP

The last two mainline Counterparts albums have been pretty dull for me so I was excited to hear that this was different. But they kind of just switched to a different flavor of dull. At least half of this EP objectively could have been written by literally *any* hardcore band, like be serious.
