Emotion is a fab album, but there are only 2-3 tracks there i'd call fun. the bulk of it is just v upbeat compensation for the unrequited neediness it maintains so coherently across its whole runtime. overall impression is more maudlin than anything else
generally deserves its acclaim as one of the best pop records of its time, but making it a self-identity record is a big ol red flag when it comes from sunless e-boys with a track record of Missing The Point from umpteen female artists who don't sugarcoat their insecurities for audience benefit while tacitly addressing *you* as The Guy Who Could Make It All Right in 9/10 of their songs
tl;dr not fun

probably the best and most astute analysis of the album, but it's still 'fun' at the end of the day

Emotion is a fun summer pop record. Like I don’t even understand this discourse lol, is it because the lyrics contradict the bubbly nature of some tracks?

literally every song bar one is about her touting her lack of self-worth while pining after (one presumes) the same guy, so yes v much so
same story as Call Me Maybe, though less easy to pass off as tongue-in-cheek silliness

Multiple things can be true. CRJ is a sad girl looking for love and her music is enthralling compositionally

If I was on Spring Break whilst this album came out I’d no doubt love it. Pretty catch with some memorable production

Funny you say that because I saw someone post a history of Charli's tours and she actually opened for Sleigh Bells in 2012 lol Her touring resume is actually pretty insane
@Johnny/Fowl
lmao
I adore Carly and you better believe that I love Emotion, but I do agree that it's kinda become this trump card for people who refuse to properly engage with or explore pop as means to dispel accusations of not liking pop. Gun to my head, it might be my third favorite of hers

This album was just unfortunate to come out the same year as 'Slut Pop Miami' I don't make the rules
