definitely needed some hooks or lyrical repetition, it's begging for it

That's a great call Futures. I feel like I need to see these guys live to truly "get it".

Closer is the most chewable. Prob why it’s my favorite.
The others are great in a vacuum and some made superb singles, but as a unit it’s a bit one note

I personally think it’s a great front to back listen; that’s the way I do it. It’s shorter as an album than some GYBE songs. It’s not that much of a task and works better that way. Sit and Mourn is a phenomenal song, but listening to it by itself doesn’t hit as hard as it hitting the outro after the whole album. Doesn’t need any grooves or repetition, imo

That little "ROH" into the outro breakdown on The Calm is delish

Can someone please help me sort out which Meshuggah song sounds a lot like 1:30 in Take Me Home?
|
| |
Nevermind I sorted it - 4:10 in The Hurt That Finds You First. Knew it was on Koloss. They're not the same rhythm by any means but it's all I can hear when I listen to that section in Take Me Home

“Maybe it's just not your thing? Nothing wrong with that”
Of course. I’m not surprised this is liked, just that it’s loved. In the context of core music it seems fairly one-dimensional. Then again, I may have just tired of this sound
Different genre, but similar in its relentless pursuit of heaviness is Brodequin’s latest. I feel similar there. People are going nuts over what I find a very homogenous, uninteresting sonic repertoire. And I (sometimes) like both genres

i kinda agree with demon in that i'm sorta surprised at how much love this is getting relative to their other material
or i guess this is getting relatively similar reception tear in the fabric got but that ep legit felt like new ground was being broken. this one though? idk
anyone else get slipknot vibes from this? def feel like they're tapping into some nu metal influences here. especially on take me home and the calm

also i'm surprised people itt are calling this homogenous... feel like this is by far the most varied album they've ever done

Well you can gripe about the “brushedred seal of approval” but I mean this has a 92 on metacritic and a 3.92 on rym as well as a lot of love here and on AOTY. So, definitely not just me nor a bad album in any way. They’ve garnered some reputation for performing at Coachella but… get over it? I feel like Mastodon has played there several times. It’s a damn good album and it’s 28 minute run-time doesn’t ask for much. It’s easily the most thrilling metalcore album in my opinion since All We Love We Leave Behind
