Skrillex did popularise that sound, just as T-Pain popularised autotune (even if Cher was the original innovator in that case) and the Beatles popularised psychedelia. no need to take that crippling chip off your shoulder to acknowledge who brought novelties and/or innovations into the mainstream

Acid House, Rave culture, Jungle absolutely massive ‘movements’ in dance that had all more or less evolved from ‘disco’ and the house music scene prior.

I remember electronic culture really hitting the kids in England, suddenly you'd see those multi cassette cases being carried around, probably around 1991-92. Ten cassettes of stuff I thought of at the time as completely repetitive, indistinguishable and unrelatable - took me a few more years to start 'getting it'.
whether you are as into the genres, the changes in hip hop and metal in the '90s were almost as seismic as in electronic
it's insane that all this was happening in all these different genres at once, to be fair back at the time it felt like something massive was happening in music every month - with hindsight I can't believe the short spaces of time between some of the classic albums back then

zak you may not like skrillex (and nor do i really) or the fact that it happened in a year beginning with the numbers 2 and 0 but its inarguable that skrillex spearheaded a massive movement in dance music that had more relevancy than basically everything you talked about on a mainstream level

imo normalising brostep within the mainstream allowed the same treatment to be extended to bubblegum bass, which paved the way for PC Music, which is still responsible for engineering a steep proportion of the pop landscape today
