the lineage went something like Weakling -> Agalloch -> WITTR -> Fauna -> Panop to get there, with Leviathan and Xasthur on some weird offshoot

Still his best work by a wide margin. Insane album. A classic of the genre

Cedar Skeletons made me 4.5 this. Can't objectively be lower at this point even if the rest were just fart noises.

Cedar Skeletons was my #1 song of the year last year and I normally don't dig this style of music all that much. This thing just hit me so hard I couldn't stop.

I'm still in disbelief at how much I like this in comparison to their previous work. It's like Austin heard me say how I thought this band was a bit overrated and decided to take out the cannons and the aces up his sleeve.

I think I have this 3rd behind collapse and autumn eternal but honestly all 3 are pretty close. The last one was really good too

Whoa boy, what a ride. Didn't expect Panopticon to ever be this varied, dynamic and have such grandeur and epic melodies. The album is definitely a slow starter and I was a bit skeptical at the start, wanting something more energetic, but then Winter's Ghost started developing and ooooh my god. By the time Cedar Skeletons came in, I was already sold. probably the best thing from 2023 I've heard dammit

I definitely expected something different since the only thing I knew from this guy was Collapse, which was like folk black pretty much, this here is more like melo black, even reminded me of winter's gate at times
