'this sounds way off to me, drums are disgustingly clean (and loud in the mix) for how distorted everything else is, and the guitars are way tinny for how scuzzy they're clearly meant to sound. awkward combination of over- and under-produced at the same time, feels more like plastic in the microwave than proper grit'
exactly why ive never got into this band
doesnt skronk and it could

initially hated the prod on this, but it grows on you. the weird ethereal and very clean melodic guitar that most tracks have in the background is yum and how clear as a bell the drums are (given how electric the performances are) is also cool BUT i mean id totally get why the prod would turn some off, so fairs

Wish I liked this more, think the debut is better. Worthless is the Lamb fucking shreds tho, and I like the closer a lot. But to me all of this is just a weaker version of that first record.
Oh well, still some really solid shit to headbang to

'Mort can you define skronk for me I have to know'
skronk is when the sound goes
SKRNNNNK, SKRANK, SKRONK
basically i want all metalcore to be noisecore and sound like botch and coalesce

Honestly the only thing lacking here compared to Splinters is that the "YOUR FUCKING... END" bit in Pariah eclipses their entire discography and there isn't anything that really compares here, but the expansions on their sound here more than make up for it imo. Even the drumming here managed to be just as good despite having fuckin Billy Rymer on Splinters

"basically i want all metalcore to be noisecore"
this makes me think of Narrows and how I want more Narrows
|
| |
narrows never really skronked but they were close and they were also noisy as hell
they did perfect the sorta intense beefed up dark hardcore riff tho
so many narrows riffs are hella straightforward but also straight fire

Yeah maybe that has really swayed my opinion meatsalad.
When I found out Billy wasn’t involved in this my interest in it fucking plummeted. So I’ll admit there’s definitely some bias before I even listened to the fuckin thing.
I’ll give it a few more spins, but to me this just really solid-beat-your-fuckin-ass metalcore. Nothing more imo

So skronk is kinda like abrasive and dissonant whereas something like this is just LOUD and hevy, I think I get where you're coming from
|
| |
kinda, but skronk also has meat and resonance, whereas this is tinny and plastic

"narrows never really skronked but they were close and they were also noisy as hell"
agree about never really full out skronking, but yes, noisy as hell and that noise-infused hardcore sound is what I've been craving for in core for awhile now, and Narrows is who I increasingly keep returning to
