This would have better if they went for 10 tracks and cut out all of the weird hodgepodge stuff.

Of all the current digital hardcore electronicy industrial metalcore etc etc etc bands at the moment (Vein, Knocked Loose, Pupil Slicer), Code Orange are the worst

I say that as someone who likes Forever and Underneath, this one just leans into the post grunge too hard for me, I run a mile at the slightest whiff of Puddle of Mudd

I don't share the hate of post-grunge/nu-metal, but this is definitely not a good merging of the sounds.

Genuinely can't work out what to think of this album - it's like listening to 3 different albums all at the same time. I like a bit of variety within an album, but then there's just blatant disregard for an overarching theme or track list construction.
Annoyingly I like the two extreme ends of album - when they go HARD and when they get all catchy & melodic. Then there's this weird middle ground that takes up a large part of the album that I can't quite get my head around.
IF it all clicks together, I think I'm gonna really like it. But that's a big IF.

As messy as this album is, I quite enjoy the abrupt left turn from Mirrors to A Drone...

This is a grower album for sure. At first I was little let-down, but every time I relisten I appreciate/enjoy it more. Ambitious album. Forever and Underneath were more immediately satisfying and banger while this one requires you to dig deeper.

This is all over the place, and sometimes in a good way sometimes not, but it is a big step in the right direction for these guys imo

I really appreciate this album. It's a bit confusing at times and seems to be both more accessible and oppressive than ever for the band. Too bad I am convinced that with the cancellation of their tour this album has flopped. At the very least the band has lost all momentum. I'd expect an emergency new "return to our roots" single drop or something heading into the Spring.

I honestly hope not. I like their alt metal leaning songs for the most part.
Actually when I really think about it, their softer songs have always appealed more to me, even going back to the very first record. Colors is legitimately beautiful. Dreams in Inertia is eerie as hell and one of the best songs on King. Bleeding in the Blur felt like a love letter to 90’s alternative. Same with Sulfur Surrounding. And here I liked Mirror and Snapshot the most.
They literally could just make that style of rock with some of their metalcore trends and it would be a great record.

And it really sucks that they had to cancel that tour. Especially when it’s something the band has no control over.
