edit: I actually have fifteen 3.5s from this year, which is pretty good actually, although some will inevitably be dropped in due course (haven't heard all that many releases from '23). 2 x 4s.

once your art consumption hobby feels like work, you feel like you still have to listen to x amount of album you arent actually genuinely interested in, once you feel the need to judge everything harshly to retain a nice table of diverse ratings id say your passion is most likely dead and a kind of addiction has replaced it.

Agreed. If there isn’t enjoyment in it, how are you even really digesting the music and the experience? It might not even be that the music sucks, but the mindset experiencing it sucks. Does good music become so because it fits the right mold, or because it scratches the surface hard enough to break through the jaded fatigue of mechanised listening?
