They do seem to be playing a lot of new songs. I saw them last night and they debuted yet another one.

Lowered my rating for this. Absolutely no desire to return to any song here; unfortunately, I'd say this is even worse than their last effort.

Their last one felt shallower than past releases, but it still had some hooks. This, as others have pointed out, just feels like leftover folklore instrumentals. Very bland and repetitive, and none of the charm/magic that used to slowly win me over on previous National albums.

"do they sound like this"
the one they played at my show (think it was called "coat on a hook"?) sounded just like this yeah.
and i read somewhere that they recorded like 14 other songs besides the ones on here, and they've performed like 6(?) of those other songs live now. very well could be another new album soon

Probably. I don't actively dislike it, I just nothing it. Usually a 2.5 is my apathy rating -- 1.0-2.0 is reserved for stuff that's, like, actively bad, which this isn't. But I could certainly understand someone giving this a poor rating.

😆 we rate differently I guess, just wanted to see the indignity of The National getting a sub-average score from the rather generous Sow… y’know just to hammer home the point a little more

Yeah Dyl, those are very solid. “Grease in Your Hair” has grown on me a decent amount too.

This album is six feet under, dead on arrival
The intro song that sounds like a by the numbers scene setter is the highlight - let that sink in
They should have split up by now, sad but has to be said

The creative juices have run dry. This is almost Lana Del Ray-level boring.
