"thank you for that weigh-in, deathbat. go listen to ambient until your power level is high enough to unlock opening past pages of active threads" Ok but what's the "shittier version of a good thing" and what's the good version here?

He's saying that Frontierer, despite being completely one-dimensional, is the good version of Periphery because Periphery made the song Everything Is Fine! Bad takes abound in this thread
For the record, Frontierer kicks ass and albums can be enjoyable without needing to back it up with a dissertation

but yeah if anyone can coherently explain why Frontierer is good but Periphery is bad then I'll eat my own hand, shit it out, and eat it again

I’m not even sure how they’re really comparable in any significant ways 🤷

Outside one song, they really aren’t
|
| |
the comparison is localised to one song yes
the offending qualities of that song have already been cited
periphery are musical theatre bullshit and frontierer are not
even the heaviest periphery songs sound like a bunch of nerds playacting
thank you for your time

I prefer Everything Is Fine because at least they consolidated it to a 5-minute track and still had melodic sections mixed in to break up the insanity. Frontierer is just way, way too much and barely has any time in between the crazy, in-your-face, balls to the wall craziness. I've tried two of their albums, and both of them left me feeling exhausted. 24/7 heaviness rarely appeals to me without something deeper in to keep me listening.
Real talk, I could just turn on Dillinger Escape Plan or prime era Converge and get the crazy mathy stuff but also have (IMO) more interesting concepts and more sonic variety - Converge actually bothers to slow down many times on Jane Doe and You Fail Me and Dillinger has Puciato's solid clean singing sections mixed in with the crazy heaviness. For me, when there's no quiet, there can be no loud. When EVERYTHING is a wall of noise, it's exhausting.
Periphery is sort of at the upper limit and if they had a worse vocalist (Spencer to me is one of the best in the game) and/or focused more on the "Everything Is Fine" style and less on like, Wax Wings or the melodic stuff off P4 and especially P3, I'd likely not be as big a fan as I am.

ngl sounds like you would enjoy frontierer more if you were better at listening to music
“3.6 - Great”
tfw you try to pull the sheeple card and the average drops immediately after ouch

Frontierer would be better if they didn't just do the same crazy song 15 times and call it an album. I sort of liked one track of theirs on the second album but don't have interest in fully running through it considering that might be an anomaly.

you have a linkin park 5
every single song by that band is more or less the same
your opinion licence has been revoked
|
| |
honey you have two katatonia 5s and have just said in an open forum that you struggle to make sense of any music that doesn't hold your hands with nice big obvious internal contrasts i am not sure why you're still dishing out ammo here
and lmfao nice mort, glad to see you've never heard LP beyond meteora (do not change this ever)
|
| |
ive barely even heard meaty aura, it bored me too much to finish and plus when i was 12 i had a brief linkin phase like most people
and my memory tells me that every song is verse chorus mishmash of angst and bad lyrics

"you have a linkin park 5

they've genre bended more than any other mainstream rock/metal band I can think of but sure they all sound the same
"honey you have two katatonia 5s and have just said in an open forum that you struggle to make sense of any music that doesn't hold your hands with nice big obvious internal contrasts i am not sure why you're still dishing out ammo here"
re-read this line: "For me, when there's no quiet, there can be no loud. When EVERYTHING is a wall of noise, it's exhausting." When its 24/7 the same heavy brutal heavy brutal, it is boring and exhausting.

yeah, you're not helping your case with that one

'hey've genre bended more than any other mainstream rock/metal band I can think of but sure they all sound the same'
crawling in my wound
my screams they will not fall

I'm sorry but dynamics are extremely important. Not making the same sounding song 15 times with the same wall of noise exhausting brickwalled production doesn't make a band worse. The fact that this band can go from Everything Is Fine (a more condensed and more varied version of what Frontierer does), to Silhouette (vibes similar to Sotelo's synthpop project Nik Mystery) to Dying Star which brings the djent back in, is a pretty good achievement imo.
As for Linkin Park, the lyrics are relatable and speak to a common experience many go through and Chester was clearly speaking his truth for a long time... he should be as heralded as Kurt Cobain was for using music as a cathartic release IMO.
