Looking at thesetlist at their European tour, I don't quite get why they want to play mainly songs off Virus. Would much rather have them pay this :/ And from this album it's the weakest songs (excpet Alphabet) that they seem to play.

I've always had a weird time with this band. I started with The Mountain and I enjoyed a lot of the music but it was having a Dream Theater effect re: the vocals. I listened to the album a handful of times and shelved it, and when Affinity came out I didn't listen to it for a long time because it just wasn't even on my radar. When I did give it a go I was pretty blown away and still wasn't crazy about the vocals but was warming up to them and even found some genuinely enjoyable/beautiful moments in them. Vector and Virus were both cool and riffy and had some great moments but not nearly as interesting as Affinity to me, vocals continued to grow on me, and now they've released this.
Anyway this fucking rocks, very solid album. Lots of love for Elephants but after a bunch of listens my favorites are probably Island in the Cloud and Eyes of Ebony. Alphabet and Lovebite are also both just a blast (I ignore lyrics v easily) But Eyes of Ebony is what I find stuck in my head constantly all the time. Amazing closer, the end is so beautiful and the way it calls back to the intro is perfect. Not sure if it tops Affinity for me but it's definitely been on repeat more than any other Haken album.

Fantastic as always. Band never disappoints. And I wouldn't want Haken without Ross.

Really enjoyed reading YoYoMancuso's review on this album. Very well written. I like how he dissected every song and gave his personal take on it.
I'm not really into progressive metal because Tool is pretty much the only prog band I listen to. That being said this album by Haken is very easy to listen to. I feel like it's "light" and has a great flow. I listened to it in the background while doing other stuff and really enjoyed it.
Favorite song: Island in the Clouds

Nightingale and Sempiternal Beings are so good man.

I loved Virus but other than a few songs off The Mountain they haven't done much for me.
I'll give it a spin soon. Sempiternal Beings is cool on first listen. Riff change at 7:14 is sexy.

that transition at 3:40 of Taurus sounds EXACTLY like something to me and it's been driving me nuts since this album dropped, today it popped in my head that it might be something off Mechanical Hand by Horse the Band, but I listened to it and the end of Lord Gold is *pretty* close but I swear to god there was something more exact I was thinking of including the little step down at the end.
Somebody gotta help me out on this one before I go through my last.fm and listen to every album I've ever listened to.
