A short, concise, enjoyable burst of pop that manages to lift out the doldrums and brighten the day.

It’s a bloody great album.

"Controllah" was a bit solid but could have used with a little more fleshing out. Definitely needed to include that and "Crocodillaz" on the actual album.

Just peeped the deluxe version tracks and they’d certainly make the album no better. Captain chicken is like super fast jellyfish part 2 oof.

Honestly this whole thing makes me wonder if Damon has suffered some sort of brain damage

This is Bore-illaz

I’m kind of ashamed at how many people are enabling this behaviour from Damon

what is actually the point of a deluxe version released essentially in tandem

Honestly at one point I thought it was part of the “bit” but at this point I don’t think there even is a bit anymore. Gorillaz have just lived long enough to see themselves become the very thing they set out to make fun of.

Listening to a track like Bill Murray and then listening to anything off this is a pain akin to childbirth

Right now, this is averaging on a 3.5 for me.

Don't really get much of the hate here. I agree that Gorillaz post hiatus really don't live up to their work before, but, for me, this is the best and most focused they've sounded since Plastic Beach.

Thats absolute rubbish. As messy as Humanz, Now Now, and Song Machine are, there isn’t a single song here that comes even close to touching the best tracks on any of those.

On another note, I relistened to Gorillaz first three albums yesterday to see if part of why this is so terrible was just the band growing off of me but nope. Those 3 are still iconic af. I can still remember hearing some of the singles from those albums for the first time and my jaw just dropping. I miss when gorillaz made my jaw drop.

I also realized that as slapdash as the band can be at times, they truly were elevated by the “lore” of Gorillaz. Used to be such a realized concept. And I see in retrospect that that is a big part of what makes a good Gorillaz album good. All of the albums that contribute to the lore are either amazing or at least passable despite their flaws in the grand scheme of things. The ones that don’t just feel like they don’t belong. That’s why even tho Humanz is a mess, I still can rationalize it. It makes sense conceptually and I think it advances the lore. Now now is more consistent but, like this and the fall, it’s doesn’t contribute anything.

In the contexts of when they came out relative to my life and how formative absolutely. Clint Eastwood was a jaw dropping track to elementary school pots when it came out. Feel Good inc likewise to jr high pots. Cope old man
