What's odd about this record in my head: Im a big fan of Rotting Christ and a big fan of Insomnium, this album IMO seems to have a ton of RC influence on it and it just doesn't work for me. There are some great songs here but overall the record is just odd.

Can't help it: White Christ is a perfect mix of RC and Insomnium

Giving it an early 4 with chance for improvement. When measured against the 3.8 avg of One For Sorrow, this is at least a 4.5. I'm an unadulterated Winter's Gate fanboy though, so this is straight up my alley

Anyone heard the 'Songs of the Dusk' ep yet? I've only heard some brief 45 second snippets but it sounds a little more riffy than this, especially the last track on there.

I want to hear the three bonus songs. Are they released yet? Anyone know how to hear them without having to order another copy of the album?

I feel this kinda started growing on me.

And this feel so wrong. Sakis did only some vocals there, his talent shines on guitars, imo.

Fair enough, Garas, though i'm always been more sold on his vocals, both greek pronunciation and voice/screams. On this track it almost makes me grin when he stretch out the screams of the last words of the verses.

@Stormchaser the 2.5 rating can be somewhat misleading, I'm a huge fan of their original sound, It's just the more recent Vanhala led, riffless black/melodeth fusion that doesn't sit so well with me. I remain unperturbed though and always hopeful they will produce something that will resonate me once again.

Imo this is their best release aside from Winters Gate since like, the mega classic era of ATWW.

They manage the more brooding nature of their modern sound so smoothly here. Also RC feature on White Christ is ~chef's kiss~ a beaut

I love how polarizing that track is, but don't really care for it myself

The Songs of the Dusk ep is going to need reviewing. I've just heard the title track and it's really good. Sounds more stripped back than Anno, stronger emphasis on guitars, its pure melodeath, and dare I say it a gentle nod to OG Insomnium. Think Crisis will enjoy this one

Ville has songwriting credits on one of the songs which is at least a good sign

EP in its entirety up on YT now. It's an ode to classic Insomnium in so many ways. It's my favourite thing they have done in years. Riffs take centre stage once again.
