"I know this [insert jam band] sucks in the studio, but you have to hear them live man! On tons of psychedelics, and maybe some alcohol too. And maybe don't pay too much attention to it, like be in the middle of a conversation with a friend while it's playing, but also definitely be inbreated, oh and don't stand in the front row"

I don't think I've listened to a single Ween album yet. Maybe I should change that

Pretty sure Ween's country period was genuine, especially since they got actual old-time country session musicians to back them
While Ween does make funny music, their style-shifting is usually just showing appreciation for the style rather than goofing on it (with a few exceptions.) I remember watching an interview where Dean Ween specifically remarked how he didn't like Frank Zappa because he felt Zappa's parodies were dismissive of...wait let me pull this actual quote
“We didn’t go to Nashville to make fun of these old country legends,” Dean says. “We went there because we love that music and we wanted them to be part of it. We wouldn’t go down there to make fun of it. There are bands that are sarcastic and I don’t like it. I don’t like Frank Zappa for that one reason alone. A lot of times he’s making fun of this genre he’s playing — there’s no doubt that he loves it or whatever but it’s almost showoff-y. It’s not sincere enough for me.”
