The best move Megadeth could have played in their career was retiring after the release of Youthanasia.

ISIS did it best. Recorded solid albums, retired for the reason "there is nothing we can do to top what we've already recorded, we would rather go out at the climax than fade away".

Deathmetalizbomb, have you ever read the liner notes on The Sound Of Perseverance when Chuck said "while Metallica is on break, we're actually recording metal"?

That was 1997 when he initially wrote that, so he's talking about Load, Reload, and no doubt the Black Album because that album ruined metal, radio shit. You'll see it some day, maybe not but this? This album here? This isn't metal. This is a nightmare, a nightmare that will hit Dave hard when he sees it and cant escape, like when he re-recorded his vocals on ALL albums and they sound like shit. This band was good up until 1994. This is just silly. He can't even play his own shit anymore. R E T I R E!

I don't remember. The first thing I did after I listened to this was binge Death for 8 hours to clear my head.

Haha I thought I was critical of latter day megadeth! I think you’re going overboard wutang but generally I agree that they are nothing on what they used to be.

For me system has failed was good and a huge improvement on world needs a hero but after that I’ve found it hard to like any of the albums (granted they all have some moments still. Sleepwalker on UA at least)

This one is definitely better than a 1.0

In fact I could take your criticism with more credence if you gave it a 2 or 2.5 but a 1 reeks of over zealousness, can’t take anything you say seriously with a 1. It’s just a little absurd

Maybe even a 1.5 I could take half seriously.

" and no doubt the Black Album because that album ruined metal, radio shit."

metal was never ruined... not even Kurt could kill metal...
Bands were releasing amazing shit during the 90s and 00s
Melodeath and power metal grew strong during those years in Europe...

the black album is overrated as fuck, but it's annoying that people accuse it as being the album that "killed metal". appitete for destruction, if anything, was the first really big "metal" album to smooth that road for heavier music to play on the radio. and either way, wasn't metallica's fault that literally every other thrash band felt the need to go nu/grunge too. people will say "metallica forced thrash bands to go grunge in order to survive" but 99% of those thrash bands saw zero mainstream success while writing mainstream music.

Even Kurt himself said how much he hated that song because of how mainstream it became lol. It was "the ultimate pop song"
