Hmm. In summary I think it's not a very good or mature album.

The guitar tone is nuts and they have their moments but the songwriting here does not always flow naturally and has pretty cringe moments, especially those copycat deftones parts.
I think the biggest weakness of the album are the vocals. In particular the high pitch cleans could not taken seriously from time to time. This all makes the album pretty weak and I cannot take it seriously as a full, serious and internationally capable album. It just has too much flaws.

randomly jammed this again and its still generally bad but ngl blue velvet is great

first four songs as an ep with better vocal mixing would be an acceptable release but it falls off a cliff around valentine and sans the interlude becomes a 1/5 worthy release until the last two songs that are j kinda there

Fuckboi metal at its worst. It's quite sad because their debut is top notch metalcore

I've recently went back and listened to this again. Hollywood has actually come around for me but to counteract that, Casanova fell off and hard. If this was the 1st two tracks, Arkangel, Hollywood, and Heroine, I wouldn't mind it that much. But the rest of this is either bad to holy shit what the hell were they thinking. Seriously, I've never had as negative and as quick of a negative reaction to a song from a band I liked than to Raw. Its soooooo bad.

There's enough here to scrape the album across the line IMO, but holy fuck there are some truly headscratching decisions being made on this. They've replaced the smooth delay and reverb drenched river ride with some distortion pedal they found in the closet of their childhood home, the songwriting is confused, and - I don't say this lightly - they come off as the sonic version of a Chino Moreno Halloween costume.

I dunno if van Duppen held the secret sauce, but things went downhill as soon as he stepped back. Their live performance has suffered badly too.

I've actually been ok with the two singles. Amazing what happens when the vocal filter option isn't always up to 100.
