That it wasn't, but the band members themselves never said anything of the sort. And that is what counts imo

Like the vocals. Getting big nostalgia vibes from this, the big guitar sound reminds me of badmotorfinger at times. Kurt Balou is an amazing producer.

I spinned it again this morning, not sure it's a 4 but it is easy to listen to.
Not sure about stacking 2 ballads (if I may call them that) side-by-side at the end though

It’s because Snapcase really did end on “End Transmission”

yeah i thought final transmission was pretty clearly in reference to it being calebs last release and not the bands altogether since they were pretty adamant about wanting to push forward when that album dropped, but i can def understand how that name coulda brought along some confusion

Vocals on Blinded by a Blaze are particularly great.

Wavering Angel is one of the best songs of the year

I love Wavering Angel but it feels a bit longer than it needs to be.
Edit: as a standalone its length is fine. In the context of the record as a closer its a tad long on an already long record.

You say that but there allegedly is a new snapcase album

The band said in pressers / interviews pretty quickly after Final Transmission that they were going to continue on with Nate as a touring and recording act, but it's an easy mistake to make considering Caleb's huge hand in their writing process.

I think the majority of people just don't follow the band close enough to have known that tbh so like I wouldn't blame anyone for assuming that

This rules, so many good riffs and that production is stellar.

I dont want to be a killjoy but i think theres too much overhype and overstating how good heavy pendulum is (my thoughts):
1. the production is basically a better mixed version of white silence (not that that's a bad thing; i love white silence), which was self produced- this doesn't feel distinctly "kurt ballou" production.
2. stephen has some really awkward vocal moments throughout but hes good in other areas; the inconsistency can be annoying
3. simpler song structure; while not bad its poorly executed and feels like a more forced "brootal" cave in album. (THE MUSICIANSHIP IS GREAT, DONT GET ME WRONG) whereas white silence and perfect pitch black feel natural in their transition towards heaviness, heavy pendulum does feel rather forced and not a natural transformation. also some areas where you want the music played "this way" but it doesn't (e.g. "Bloodspiller" has wierd bass behind spacey guitars)
4. nate mendel (I MEAN NATE NEWTON): while not bad on the bass (in fact a worthy successor in performance and tone) he isnt (as) good on vocals. im not asking him to be a caleb scofield clone but he just breaks the consistency. whereas caleb was a barking dog, nate yelps and yaps instead.
5. the spacey elements dont gel as well as the past: e.g. new reality's pre-chorus space effects sound quite jarring n all.
yeah thats it

Disagreed with the last two points, the first three ones do have some merit though. I think Nate sounds great and not too dissimilar from caleb

I didn't know Nate Mendel was in Cave In now. Figured with Sunny Day reuniting he'd be more likely to get back with them. Interesting

"Disagreed with the last two points, the first three ones do have some merit though. I think Nate sounds great and not too dissimilar from caleb"
point 4 isnt AS good. and i think to elaborate he comes in with screams at the wrong times which is my biggest gripe
On point 5 i don't mean the spacey stuff is bad; they do merge it successfully AT TIMES but it happens less consistently than previous efforts

"Blinded by the Blaze" is the best thing on here. The rest is just sort of... meh.

The formula half works and half doesn't. there's some good songs but its a bit.... how do i describe it? forced and imitated. cave in feels like they're trying to prove a point, and its obvious how much they're trying. but trying and forcing does not mean conviction.
