It's great, but definitely their weakest. I think I even prefer the "This Place Sucks Ass" EP.

“I don't just tolerate the production here I actually like it
I must be weird”
Not at all, there can be variables. DAC of your device, noise cancelling, physical noise sensitivity. glad you like it.

Production is fine, record is great.

Yeah literally no issues with production

production is like the least damning of this record's very overt major issues

Is this too fun or too catchy or too energetic
Pick your poison

it's none of those things and would benefit from any of them - the hooks are mostly weak or lazy (jfc Waiting esp) - it's a really awkward middle ground between anything-goes fun and concerted self-awareness and none of these tracks other than maybe the closer have the [impression of] biting sincerity or specific scene/imagery that used to mark Pup out as Pup. compare Totally Fine's one-size-fits-all neurotic stew with the horribly specific angles on Morbid Stuff t/t or Familiar Patterns; absolutely distinct step down in writing focus
most of this is a vocal/lyrical issue, but that's so key to their sound. it's not a *bad* record because they're not a bad band, but they've lost their edge big time

the first paragraph of johnny, completely missed it. no idea
But he said that vocal was supposed to be an advantage, and now it's been lost, I couldn't agree more.

Sounds like an unpopular opinion but for me TDiO > this > Morbid Stuff

I have no prior PUP experience so I guess ignorance is bliss. To me this is just high octane fun. Pop punk at its most enjoyable.

Oh um okay I guess that figures, but, like, listen to this band's good albums? Morbid Stuff has a lot in common with this but packs so much more weight - this feels like a load of "SHIT I'm tired and stressed, here's some token sark, here's a woohoo" by comparison
big old messy burnout

You know I'm all about new releases which is why I got into this first. Considering how much I enjoy what is apparently their weakest LP, it sounds like I'm in for a great time with their discography.

here come all the "i don't like this as much because it didn't drop yesterday" 3's in a row

I discover them with Morbid Stuff but I'm starting to feel this one is an overall better album. MS has the best songs.
Album is just so much fun. I've listened to it all week during commute, bobbing my head like a moron.

I found them during their debut touring, still remember the excitement. So I can say that my opinion on this album is like not very reliable.

Same, been following these guys since I saw them open for the menzingers like 8 years ago. My buddy's band played the same bill with them once back when they were called Topanga. If I was forced to rank their LPs this would be last but its still a solid record. Maybe I'm not critical enough or whatever but these songs do it for me.

This is still growing on me jeez! Totally Fine has such great fuzzy diy garage rock vibes, and the down the line simple AF chorus cuts through it perfectly.
Couldn't relate less to the critisms of the lyrics/songwriting either. Almost everything here is on par with the last 3 LPs - it takes itself less seriously, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

this is in no way lazier or more burnt out than their previous works. definitely grows on you more than any other pup record as well. maybe you've had enough of the pup brand?

so pup goes jeff rosenstock?

"maybe you've had enough of the pup brand"
not at all, still getting kicks off the good'uns
the purely self-deprecating stuff here is fine - anything with emotional heft (Totally Fine immediately comes to mind) just bakes such a generic/half-formed portrait of the self-loathing malaise this band has spent their whole career charting. those lyrics could have come from practically anyone and although it's plenty catchy, i can't help but find it hella cheap to hear them over the same inflections that used carry far smarter/snarkier lines
