I don't listen to much pop-punk but some parts of this record, like the opening two tracks, sound like current-era Blink-182 worship.
But the lyrics man... the lyrics across this whole record are awful. Some of the worst I've heard in a while. It's not that there isn't some deeply personal themes and stories happening in some of these songs but the way he expresses them... He could definitely use a song-writer to help him bring those thoughts and feelings out. The verses here are dreadful.
The second song, 'god save me', has this sort of postmodern irony thing going on but he's not a good enough writer to pull it off. Compare it to Matt Healy's writing in The 1975 and it's night and day which one of these writers knows his way around a verse, both exploring similar themes around addiction and fame.
