I think this is really underrated here... yeah t is much simpler and straight than their previous stuff. But it's far from bland or shallow, just leaving the beaten track. Acouple of listens in I don't think it is among their best albums, but it is still a great trip.

Thought this was a good, if very unexciting and “un-DsO” album upon release when so listened to it maybe four or five times in succession. Haven’t been back to it since, strangely enough, and haven’t really had a yearning to do so. I will eventually, of course, and wouldn’t be surprised if my score dropped.

I like the concept of the review and I agree with analysis of the themes behind the album and with the score overall, but I think you did a disservice to yourself with the argument about people not getting the album or the band. DsO have been quite divisive since Si Monvmentvm… and they changed their sound a lot through albums, so it’s pretty normal someone can not like this new style (and it’s their right to do so) they adopted. On my part I enjoyed the album especially when paired with the engaging lyrics and themes, I’m looking forward to the next installment/evolution.

I was thinking about this review again recently. I am continually amazed how nobody bothered to address the specifics of my review, namely the lyrical content which centered my review. Everyone wants to throw the entire thing into the trash because they consider the music to be not innovative, or they have political animosity to what they presume is the attitude of the band in their incredibly superficial reading. They miss the critical factor. I'm saddened by the overlooking of the most basic points of my review. It's as if one tries to direct persons' attention to some danger, and they foolishly use one's warnings as an excuse to blather on about their own irrelevant dealings. I wish people would think a layer deeper regarding this album, but they want to do nothing but socially position themselves in regard to how they presume others on this site will react.
If the coming changes have not yet unsteadied you, I pity your shortsightedness. Please, wake up, for there is not much time. Godspeed, ye musiclovers
