In the long run do you think the extra songs will benefit or hinder the album?
I think it'd help, since there's more to choose from and I'm expecting a lot won't have the exact same top picks, so over time any of the stuff people feel is slightly filler or just Immo doing Immo will pop out at them and could lend a hand toward the strength of the album, even though it's "same quality cut" after "same quality cut". It lends to the view that this album is "stacked" and in a way heavier, lol.
Though I get how one could see it as bloated too. The whole album is Immo performing in the same range of peak, but it doesn't have many parts that crest over a certain wave or something that really peaks the same way anyone's top ten Immo songs do. It's an interesting approach though, cause there's a lot of words given by Ross on how it's more in the vein of their older material and this almost can be seen as a cross between Atonement and DoP. Just a heavy brunt of music without too much thinking, and more a cyclonic wall of brutality.

‘This is solid. Its immolation being immolation i wouldn't say its any more formulaic than their previous 3-4 albums. They wrote good album. But yeah they've made better.’
M&D is anything but formulaic. Then again, these guys hit in weird ways where that ends up being their pinnacle for me. Maybe they’re actually reliant on the enormous pummelling sound presented by that album’s production. It just works incredibly well. It’s like they have to sound absurdly heavy to get their riffs to hit home, or something.
CtaWB is obviously a classic, but it hasn’t ever quite hit me in the same way.

M&D is the immo casuals album

Well I’m not a hardcore fan so that makes sense I guess.
One of the least impressive of all the ‘truly great’ death metal bands. Cynic exist though, so they’re certainly not last.

yeah, cynic have no albums that touch immo's top 10

😂 no idea if they count (probably not) but I’d still take Immo over stuff like Autopsy, Obituary, Deicide etc. That stuff just ain’t that impressive to me. It’s okay I guess.

I think it's because I'm jamming this and some of Immolations classics for the first time during the same time period, but this is a bit underwhelming compared to some of their earlier work imo
I don't know what to rate it yet

"M&D is the immo casuals album" eheh aaaight I fit the hat. CtaWB is their best probably, and I dig Atonement too

"Derelict of Spirit" is my stand out track. I like the mixture of aggression and melody/rhythm. The dynamic between Vigna and Bouks carries this all the way. Solo is kinda crap but the leads in the latter part are good enough. Shalaty managed to fit in so many subtle stuff it's mind-blowing. Also this track has no moment that hits with an undecipherable wall of sound. This track is worthy of the Close to a World Below legacy.

So Far CtaWB is their best, yeah
But I don't know what's second best. M&D fucking rules, Unholy Cult is a fun time, but I'm also super into their first two albums because I'm a sucker for classic dm.
Not sure what the ranking is, but this isn't really anywhere near the top for me (at least not right now)

This is mid tier. Around atonement level. Under their first 5 albums. But above kingdoms ruin and shadows.

Here in After was always my personal fav. It's incredible how much melody can be created with a guitar distorted to the point it almost doesn't sound like a guitar anymore. This is also the root of the Immo dissonance. All the tracks are masterpieces.

Agreed bud here in after is terrific. When you jam this and after back to back this album doesn't quite seem as good as it does by itself that's for sure
