- ill never grow tired of perssons vocs, they just mesh perfectly with their style (in7hox).
That’s honestly a big reason why I love this band. Even when they’ve branched out and experimented, they’ve kept the Umea-core vocals from their roots and never backed down from that. I saw them a couple of times when Klas was still in the band and when they did dual vocals, it was so powerful. Even thinking back to tracks like Leave Me Here, they’ve used harsh vocals over quieter sections where other bands would just default to cleans (which often don’t age particularly well imo) and it works really well.

Yeah and if so, looks like I have 7 albums or so to get acclimated with

when folks ask where should I start with this band, Blood Upon Stone simply CAN NOT be a wrong answer.....really good song, especially that middle section

best example of that is Crossing Over
their most post-rock moment with harsh vocals buried in snow

Into The Night is probably my least favorite on here

I have to be honest, this might be my favorite CoL album to date, and A Dawn to Fear was my album of the year when it came out. I just love the imagery, the delivery, everything about this (familiar as it may be in sonic quality).

Delete tracks 3, 6 and 9 and the album is solid 9/10

I wouldn't delete any of these. And Full Moon is setting a tone, the calm before the storm, for the onslaught that awaits. It's telling a story without any words....

Beyond I and Full Moon are fine, maybe not particularly impressive by themselves, but as part of the journey / album experience, I certainly wouldn’t cut them. I don’t find them underwhelming at all.
…although if I’m trying really hard to find criticism then Beyond II doesn’t feel necessary to be honest, it could’ve been condensed / tacked on if it was designed to be an outro for Blood Upon Stone. Adds virtually nothing by itself, therefore seems excessive for what it is.

The explosive moment at the end of Blood Upon Stone would hit 10x harder if the guitars were turned up higher in the mix. In fact barely audible guitar riffs is something COL have had since Dawn to Fear.
It's a small complaint, since the mix leaves more room for the keys and bass to really shine, not to mention the drums sound fucking incredible. just that those epic moments would hit so much harder with louder riffs.
