"I still don’t quite understand the complaint about her vocal delivery being too typical. Her screams in the first song on the album are completely new for her."
well i'm glad u brought it up : )
to be frank i'm just fucking tired of it, and this is coming from someone who saw her back in 10-11 at amoeba in berkeley. it was revolutionary at the time. now, here we are 10 years later and 100s of carbon copies later (literally every "dark folk" babe 2015 onward) and it's literally the same shit just better produced w/ an edition of talented musicians to surround herself with.
bands who stick to the same formula for their entire careers typically get shit on, but for some reason CW is exempt from this

her shrieks on the t/t are tight af and pair well with bannon's, but it's literally just >1 min of it on an hour album.

Do you honestly wish, Jester, that they had labelled this project as above instead of Converge: Blood Moon?

This thread moves too fast lol
Also, I do love CW so I am glad she still does her thing better than anyone, carbon copies are not her fault.
The only criticism for this album I can understand is from Converge fans that got this instead of the usual Converge.

Okay I'm not really understanding this either. Pain is Beauty was a pretty drastic change from her previous output, same with Abyss, it could be argued that Hiss Spun is kind of redundant but I just see it as an expansion of what we heard on Abyss. Birth of Violence is really the only album of hers that I would say youre right about, and even then I think she is a good enough vocalist to carry average folk instrumentals.

And I REALLY don't understand any of the hate for Jacob's cleans. Have we all been listening to the same band? There's clean vocals all over their discography

yea and theyve never been all that good but they were usually used in smaller doses so they were more manageable. here theyre particularly bad and it doesnt help that both chelsea and brodsky have much stronger voices that constantly outshine him

agreed with both kev and wildcard (yikes!!!) in that CW's delivery is kinda overfamiliar at this point *but* her solo career has done mostly great work mitigating this with distinct styles album-to-album hmm

Love onions being here with such great comments while I’m busy. Changed my mind again, thought it was a 5 but now I’m thinking it’s par for the course with converge so a 1

@wildcard i guess i should get my ears checked then cuz her entire discog is a hodgepodge of one-sided doomgaze or witchy dark folk, the only difference between earlier and later is the addition of other instruments (see better produced w/ an edition of artists with actual talent comment)
