Yeah, it sure sounds loud but as I stated that's the norm nowadays. And it's indeed DR4 but when you compare it to other records scoring that DR this sounds better. Shrines for example gave me headache but this one did not. But in the end I agree with you, productions nowadays suck big time. My judgment on this one's was presented in the context of today's standards.

the sad part is that apart from the lame neoclassical bullshit there are some cool riffs here, my ears just cannot tolerate the way it sounds.
shame.

the lame neoclassical bullshit is specifically what i like

"My judgment on this one's was presented in the context of today's standards." This take is pretty clever...Relentless Mutation tho

We need less Yngwie Death Metal and more Jarzombek Death Metal agreed.

Production is a highlight for me, everything can be heard clearly despite the absolute madness of it all.
|
| |
is this actually worth listening to or more typical archspire wanky garbage?

if you do not already like archspire you will not like this

Absolutely how I feel too.
Every song on this is a masterpiece. Even Acrid Canon (which might be my least favorite) is still awesome.
At the moment I have Drain Of Incarnation on repeat, this song is so catchy.

Really enjoying this record but I feel like this is a pretty major step down both in production and albumwriting. Relentless Mutation felt perfectly tweaked and adjusted for its length and intensity, just when you're somewhat tired out by constant 12 gorillion bpm blastbeats, they throw in an acoustic section, just when you're getting into it they drop a breakdown.
Drone Corpse Aviator for example just kinda fades in with maximum velocity, does the same thing for a minute, throw in some downtempo harmonics and then just go back to going as fast as they can. Very few of the artistic choices here seem to be logical or impactful, which is pretty sad tbh

Might bump this to a 4.5 in the fullness of time

I could grow to appreciate this perhaps, certainly a potential improvement on their last effort which admittedly I struggled with. The vox are a bit goofy at times and the production is somewhat fatiguing, but otherwise this is solid stuff.
