This is actually the first album I listened to all the way through from them, so I'm giving Owls a listen now since I'm intrigued.

Curious what you think about their previous album since you listened to this one first.

Honestly, I hope these guys pull a Fallujah and just go back to what works. I appreciate trying something new but the signature sound they developed on Owls is just leaps and bounds better than anything else they've done.

Only listened to it the one time today but honestly, it's incredible. Love it. Maybe I just have the new one more ingrained in my mind as what their sound is but I don't think they're leaps and bounds different from each other. The Work has a couple shitty, boring riffs that go on a bit too long but that's not enough to take away from the extremely clean playing, especially in the leads. The shifts between songs also just work for me, but I also love bands like Loathe and Periphery that change their albums' tones at the drop of a hat. I figured that was just a prog thing. I will say Owls flows a little bit better as a whole but I'll have a more comprehensive opinion after I listen to it a few more times.

I've been enjoying this less every time I return to it. The novelty has been fading away.

Fallujah albums never have a ton of staying power for me but they're always a fun revisit every so often.

Edit: Whoops posted the above in the wrong thread. But yea, this album had almost no staying power with me.

Yea I just saw that. He had a truly unique sound to his growls. I'd honestly call it a signature sound for the band. Sounds like they left off on good terms based on the band's statement so maybe the dude is just going through some shit.

Damn, first Allegaeon and now this.

I believe it may have been a hearing-related issue based on a couple small nuggets I found here and there on the net.

It can't be any kind of coincidence that he's leaving in the midst of the tour where they're playing this full album for days in a row. This is probably the most the band has ever played in a short amount of time, and perhaps he couldn't handle it for some reason or another.

Really sad to read that today. Glad I got to meet Jake over the summer and I wish him the best.

Maybe on the fourth night he suddenly realized just how much of a step down this album is and was like "k I'm out"

Saw them play Owls at this cozy little back stage inside a bigger venue for maybe 70 people and they fucking killed it. His stage presence on that tiny little step-stool of a stage was bonkers. They're all crazy talented but he Jake will be missed a lot.

Yeah i have to agree that the band without his vocals could be a step down. I really liked his vocal style as it wasnt the typical death metal chugs. Art that 5 is making me want to revisit but i have Brutus to listen to.

Jake was a great growler but they have the other guy that does the cleans and growl who is also pretty good live.

Damn did not know he was hard of hearing. I guess it is plausible his hearing worsened. . . damn. They are one of the loudest bands I have seen live, I would not be really surprised.

Anyone have different thoughts on this album at this point? I upgraded from 2.5 to 3.0

I've downgraded from a 4.5. I guess I was blinded by the concert I had heard it at at the time. The album's got plenty of high points but the lows are really low.
