does it sound light on bass to you guys or is that just me? not in a bad way though, but I expected more big booming basslines like on Stab Slow

i am upset that slow stab isn't on this. i put that on my soty list on spotify. just a great tune, feel like it could have gone on here without any issue

Apparently there's another track ppl really wanted on the album but like this album is massive already so they've said it should replace randfilt, can't remember the name of the preferred song tho lol

I believe they said they're gonna be releasing a little mini vinyl thing with some bonus songs on it. Also they seem really happy with the attention they've gotten lately and seem to really be enjoying making music so I wouldn't be surprised if they just randomly drop songs every now and then

album cover screams “enjoying ourselves” (not sarcasm)

Going thru this now. It’s good but it’s still VCD syndrome: couple amazing songs that hint at unrealized possibilities, bunch of less good songs that retain lots of elements from the amazing songs but just not quite there for me on a songwriting level (“chapters” is a good example—maybe too simple?). Also they should ditch acoustic geetar imho, heart of hearts.

I think you could argue its simple in structure (a lot of these songs are) but the arrangements and production are far from simple

"It’s good but it’s still VCD syndrome: couple amazing songs that hint at unrealized possibilities..."
would argue the opposite in one sense and kinda agree in another; every other song on VDC felt like it could have been the basis for an entire non-existent and potentially fantastic album, but this mostly feels like a surprisingly even fold of all 3+ very existent Sweet Trip releases in a way that feels almost suspiciously refined and ultimately a little conservative. would agree that the songwriting is quite underwhelming (and again, diversity + development in that field was one of VDC's strongest suits!!), but idk if Chapters is the best song to pick for it; maybe a little simple, but other tracks are much bigger offenders. looking atchu The Weight of Comfort, This Rain is Comfort, This Rain is You
"they should ditch acoustic geetar imho, heart of hearts."
yeah wait no actually maybe yes

if we’re defining songwriting as the underlying structure of a song and the way in which it transitions from one segment to the next, a lot of Sweet Trip’s music is actually fairly simple in that regard. Velocity is essentially just two chords played over and over. Sept is just three chords, each played at the beginning of each bar. It’s their ability to flesh them out that makes them what they are. Ironically, YWNKW might be their most “complex” album structurally despite being much more sparse instrumentally. I think they’re generally just more focused on making big, epic soundscapes, with the structures of each song just being there to facilitate that
The Weight of Comfort is legit a contender for their best song btw

I would have loved to have stab/slow on the album, but randfilt is one of the best on here

also more solo vocal melodies from Valerie would have been preferred, but overall this is everything I wanted from a new Sweet Trip album

"their ability to flesh them out that makes them what they are"
yes but most of this album directs this towards sustaining the flow of verse/chorus-isms instead of expanding each idea/atmosphere to its full. perhaps simplicity is the wrong term; you're right that vast soundscapes have always been their focus, and it's no coincidence that their first two are the most dedicated to that and still their best.

same man, what even was life before Sweet Trip
and hmm not sure if I agree that these songs aren’t fleshed out to their fullest. Really seems to me like almost all of them are so packed with sounds that it requires me to listen more intently than I do with anything else. Might also just be that super dreamy music like this lulls you in naturally
there are some songs though where I imagine a super crunchy shoegaze guitar rhythm being played on top of everything. Sounds great in my head
