4 listens and it's growing on me. I like that it's a little less doomy/sludgy and a little more proggy (vs Asheran).

Asheran is more proggy imo. The main change here is the post aspect. The all thing seems more simple, both on riffs and overall technique and fills, but perhaps with a bigger sound, and broader/ more complex songwriting.
I agree Asheran is more sludgy.

"a bigger sound, and broader/more complex songwriting."
Yes, that's exactly it, you nailed it. And it's making me like it more.

Hehe awesome. I think I'm a few listens away from bumping this one.

I really liked the sludgy aspects a lot. The clean singing put me off at first but I really grew to like it. What I wish there was less of is the noodly protest the hero faux prog guitar stuff.

this was a much better gaming jam than an apartment-vacating soundtrack. gotta agree with Ledd and whoever that it's a tad bland

Honnestly only felt that on first couple of listens. It still has this big homogenous sound (but so does Dawn to Fear) but also so many different moments once you dive in. Actually it clicked with me blasting it in the car, while night driving. Also everything is bland when you go for things unwillingly.

"everything is bland when you go for things unwillingly."
this is 1) untrue 2) inapplicable here because i was v happy to give it a third jam and have no regrets on spending time with it? agreed that it is big and composed of multiple moments over the course of its bigness

Well, albeit untrue I have to say something to provoke you Johnny, because I love you deep down.

Lol @ Dawn being homogenous.
Looking forward to returning to this, I just listened to the debut again and I’m liking it a fair amount so far.

Homogenous sound, dynamic album, such as this one (being dawn a 5).
Yap I support anyone who says Asheran slays.

Us Sput vets know what we like, and what we don't. I'm confident rating after 2 listens (sometimes just 1) and very rarely change my ratings these days.

Sometimes it’s a one-and-done jobby, sometimes three, occasionally I’ll wait upwards of 6 or 7 spins before rating. If it’s in a constant rotation then there’s no rush, let it marinate.
I change my ratings loads, but often that’s because I’m revisiting something I haven’t heard in ages.

I leave my rates at their highest. They only have room to grow, or not at all. I mean its not the album s fault I listend to somth 1000 times untill it gets old. Sure sometimes I adjust something, but rarely not without a relisten (which a great reason to find and rediscover awesome things). I like to rate and give room to grow. There s a learning curve also to be considered. Self-confidence is sometimes the worst enemy appreciating art, in my case.
And hey, have a nice ride yoyo
