[quote=YDload] Tool and Radiohead have more in common than you would be willing to admit. They both started out with 1993 debut albums, had minor hits with semi-grunge songs, but soon moved on to more experimental music that has been applauded by critics and fanboys everywhere. However, their rabid fanbases are often so annoying as to turn many other people off to the music permanently, and some people think the worship of the respective frontmen is absolutely ridiculous and usually insulting to the other band members, who contribute music and lyrics just as selflessly. Nah I can always come back to this review if the occasion calls for it.
The sad thing is that most people won't even acknowledge how similar the bands are because they're so insanely devoted to one or the other. I know that personally I don't find OK Computer to be all that amazing, but I understand that many people feel the same about Lateralus too.

Did anyone else hear that Tool are in the studio recording a new album?
My science told me that someone in our local music store told him that, but I want to make sure.

riobravo, your inside source has correct information. They have actually been in the studio for about a year now, and knowing Tool, they probably won't release their yet-untitled opus until mid-late 2006.

Who thinks that their next album is going to be better than this one? Do I have any takers?

Thor, there's absolutely no way of knowing. Although some people think Aenima is marginally better than Lateralus, it is generally accepted that they have improved album to album from Opiate to Lateralus over the years. They have become more melodic and creative with each release. One factor you must take into account is the fact that Tool has been gone for 4 years now, and maybe they're having trouble getting it all back together. Of course, this is only a speculation. Obviously, they aren't rushing this album. I suppose they are perfectionists, and they will polish this album until it is as clean as a nun's honey pot (horrible analogy, I know). All we can do is ponder, Thor. There isn't much point in that, though. Let's just wait with apprehension and see how things turn out.

Yes, just look at the years their albums came out. They always take way too long, but never dissapoint.

They'd better not disappoint.
I hear tell the new album's been heavily influenced by tour-mates Meshuggah. So that should be.... interesting, to say the least.

Well you see what Maynard does with a perfect circle, emotive was shit, done in under a year. You can't rush this stuff

I'd bet money that eMOTIVe was just slapped together and released to get them out of their 3 record contract.

That's what I heard, too, Scruples. That's a pretty plausible theory.

Oh I didn't know they had a 3 record contract. That explains a lot.

I heard a rumor that Maynard has abandoned lyrics for the new album, and that he just intonates a la Sigur Ros' ( ). I truly hope this isn't the case, he writes such great lyrics.
|
| |
They wouldn't do that: Maynard doesn't evenwrite ALL of the lyrics anyway.
But it would be cool because I'm sick of people overanalyzing them anyway. I don't care what lyrics say, just how they sound.

I care what they say, but I don't go out of my way to analyze the lyrics to the point where the lyrics become more important than the music itself. This Message Edited On 11.12.05
