I've said it before and I'll continue saying it: vinyl is for the art only, not for music quality.

If you appreciate the artwork physical packaging, go for it.

If you want *better sound* stay away.

My dad got visibly upset with me when I told him that vinyl was popular again and that allegedly the sound quality was better. “There is a reason we stopped using those pieces of crap!”

Being completely honest, I never understood the appeal of vinyl beyond the artwork and novelty of spinning wax. It's expensive as hell for one, and unless you have a good turntable/preamp/speaker doesn't sound all that great.

"and unless you have a good turntable/preamp/speaker doesn't sound all that great."

extremely true. but if you do the proper research and have all of your components finely tuned, then you can get some unbelievable quality from records, albeit some records just sound bad from how they were pressed or the type of variant it's on. picture discs and glow-in-the-dark variants are the worst out there. nearly 1k and growing over here.

It's all about the ritual of putting on the record and listening to it without any distractions while enjoying the physical package and artwork.. and also a way to support artists I guess, during this pandemic a lot of money that I would have spent on shows is going to buying some records.

Now 5k is a lot lol

I have a great setup with nice speakers and sometimes I can hear things that just don't shine in headphones or if you were to just stream the same song through Spotify on the same speakers. Buuuuuut as cold said that also means you hear the bad things as well haha. It's super expensive though and only worth it if you have a serious passion or want to support the artists.

Sidenote I just got the 7" Searching for a Pulse/The Worth of the World split from TA and La Dispute and it sounds pretty average on record. Oh well

Which press? The original presses (with the gold cover) sound good, I've found the blue cover represses don't sound as great.

I buy vinyl for the weird releases and the awesome artwork. Also, the experience of going to a record shop, asking the guy at the counter for recommendations, listening to whatever they've got playing, and finding some cool stuff for cheap is one I really enjoy. Plus, most come with digital downloads for the albums themselves, so you're not usually missing out if you get vinyl.

Also, this record has the best screams so far in Touche's discog imo. Those high screams are so crispy you'd think they were deep fried. Still need to give it more time before I can say whether this is on the level of Is Survived By or Stage Four, but vocally speaking, I think it blows both out of the water at times.

scrolling thru comments talking about the futility of vinyl, while at the same time a Julien Baker 7" is delivered at my door, just to reassure me how I don't give a shit about that

Album version of Deflector sounds good compared to the single version they released last year.

Went from being one of my least favorite TA songs to one of my favorites. Pretty nuts how mixing can change an average song to an excellent one.

2nd press, it's a white one. look it sounds fine i just don't think the production is very high quality on it, never really have even though i absolutely love the songs hence wanting to own it regardless
