I think the singles are relevant because that is the first taste people get of the artist/album. For example, the singles are going to be the songs that spotify adds to big playlists with lots of followers (similar to the radio) or in my case my "release radar" playlist will pick up singles from artists I like and put it on the playlist. If I hear the singles and don't care for them, I am less inclined to check the whole album.

Yes exactly! If you aren't already interested or a fan, singles can really sway your choice to continue listening. Nobody has the time to give every single album a fair chance, so sometimes you just have to move on or let things slip through the cracks.

Still need to get on this album though. I keep putting it off. I hope I like it, because I want to fanboy with sowing. lol

@Isil get a listen to this album today. It is really worth it.
Weirdly enough, right now on Spotify 3 of Bright Eyes 'top' songs are from this album:
Dance and Sing
Mariana Trench
Pan and Broom
imo, the top 2 are my #1 singles picks.

realised that Forced Convalescence sounds like a Wowee Zowee-era Pavement outtake and idk this is a good thing for the album but I vaguely vibe it

Not entirely sure, whether i enjoy his vocal style as it sounds like he's about to freeze off his butt. Does the guy always sing like that? "Hung mirrors on the walls and the ceilihihihing" lmao

He always has this type of vocal styling, yes. He sounds a bit nervous and start and stop and a bit over dramatic. That ceilllhing line is a poor representation though.

I sense this makes for a great immersion, once you get used to it. I really like some of the compositions here, but i'd need a couple more spins to see how much of it actually grabs me on a deeper level. Right now, i'm yet to decide if this is just borderline derivative or pretty cool.

Stairwell Song is so good, probably a top ten 2020 song for me

Such a gorgeous album in every way. Lyrically perfect and the arrangements are so careful. I do wish he let loose a bit more here but there’s a big catalogue of rawer Oberst material so I can’t complain.

yeah this is pretty good, great comeback record in fact, but it didn't make me pee myself in awe or whatever

Shiranui - the long-running joke in Bright Eyes community is that Conor sings like he has hypothermia. Definitely in my top 10 of the year. My top 3 favorite songs on the album: Dance & Sing, To Death's Heart, Comet Song.

album could have ended with probably the best song on this, To Death's Heart, but then the 2nd/3rd best songs follow it so all is good
