It was always crazy that elder did what they did with three people and now they have four. It’s a fact I didn’t fully appreciate in the lead up to this album.

I really never gave this band a shot. This album has changed that. Prepared to check back catalogue.

The three albums preceding this will be such a journey. Their debut is good but leans rather heavily on their stoner/doom influence (Sleep). I’d say it’s okay to start with Dead Roots Stirring. From that first click hum it just GOES. Enjoy!

This is really growing on me. Nobody comes close to doing what these guys do.

"Nobody comes close to doing what these guys do"
not true

I’m open minded. Give me some recs, in this genre.

Motorpsycho, Causa Sui, Rotor (the German band) are really good and revolve around the proggy psychedelic stuff
|
| |
I’m a big fan of Causa Sui, but find their sound distinctly different than this. Their sound is more jazz influenced and seems light and breezy , to me. Great music to drive long distances.
I didn’t get hooked to Motorpsycho on my first few listens (same with QOTSA), but I’ll give them more time.
Never heard of Rotor but will give them a listen.

Check Dvne and Color Haze if you haven't

"Give me some recs, in this genre"
Not the easiest thing to do since they don't belong to any specific genre. So it's rather unfair to ask for a band that does exactly what these are doing atm.
So I'm going to rec you some guys who are playing a style that cannot be categorized and it has some of the elements that Elder have in their music:
Melvins
Black Bombaim
Acid King
Black Pyramid
Baroness
Samsara Blues Experiment
Khemmis
YOB
also, check the bands that Insomniac recommended

@chchelse Love to hear it. You’re not wrong.

This feels a bit like a transitionary album... they're trying to change their sound and haven't found their feet yet. Would've been nice for them to go more in the loose, jammy, pysch Gold & Silver Sessions direction. This feels a bit forced/flat a lot of the time

Embers is a masterpiece.

It's definitely their most solid track in regards to their "new" style. Halycon is great but it's more akin to their last album.

Halcyon for me. Whole album is a grower.

It's a grower for sure, but it also doesn't feel as focused as its predecessors
