“39.28” is the most interesting thing here and even then it could stand to be streamlined or something, the wacky chord changes are a bit much (albeit also where I get my pleasure from, but I think there’s a happy medium not being hit). Otherwise you’re probably right but idk this album lame
His best work is the song “urn” from Because the Internet and that’s like a minute long

"even if they're "poppy" lyrics, i.e. simple/condensed) whereas childish gambino's lyrics are as dumb as ever. he has acting chops but it's sort of like his acting where he's just sorta grinning/mugging at the camera in this knowing way that makes me angry. I thought about posting a particular lyric or two here but literally any set of four lines from "12.38" is enough proof of what I'm talking about. silly puns, easy cultural references, bad jokes, posturing, just FAKE."
I actually find this really interesting. Childish gambino was a wu-tang generated name, and in BECAUSE... he really intensely hits on the theme of withdrawing from the real world because (of an obsession with) the internet. You can't take this mess too seriously and if u do then u prob think ALGORITHM is some 1984 type controlling dance song. The song you reference is about this same disconnected kid often referenced in camp and bti yet it's a story being told from his present self looking at how dumb he was trying to impress this girl before having his ego getting a swift kick in the nuts by some shrooms. It's really hilarious and with the concept of the album being some messy mishmash of everything childish gambino was it makes perfect sense there's, god forbid, some CHEESY bars.

I don't think anyone anywhere has claimed that Gambino is a great lyricist, it's really not his appeal. rob I find it hard to believe someone with your taste doesn't fuck with the last minute of 12.38, which is the best production moment of the year, or like all of 19.10

"which is the best production moment of the year"
Tbf the only decent album you've heard this year is that Denzel and Kenny Beats EP so there's not a lot of competition

So confused about how he just tossed this album out there and then doesn't acknowledge it in any way like it doesn't exist.

This is truly one of the weirdest rollouts I've ever seen. Honestly, the most annoying thing is the lack of cover art. I love the concept art so much. I wish he actually used it.

A standout album nonetheless. I do get the feeling that it will become lost overtime do to lack of accessibility. If the rollout was a little less "artistic" then I truly believe it would have made a bigger splash. Oh well. Still love ya Donald!

There’s no excuse for that left foot right foot song... wtf was he thinking 😂
Algorythm is tiiiiight though. The condensed/low-pitched vocals just feel so right. Hook is less good but the song still gets a resounding 👍 from me.

Dude little foot big foot is so catchy though. It's dare I say "childish." hehe
It's a nice breather considering the verses are about drug dealing if I remember correctly.

Little foot big foot song is worse than California off of “Awaken, My Love” and I didn’t think that was possible

Hahaha. I love California. To be fair, it doesn't fit well with the sound of the album, but I love the light touch it gives to the middle. To each his own I guess.

I'm a sucker for those kinds of weird random tracks anyway. I don't know why. Maybe just because it's really different from everything else.
