@egarran
Sadly, this was easily the worst Ayreon for me. At least I can play Mike Mills song and pretend it was a single

haha ok you know Ayreon
I was on my first listen of it and it starts well, but yeah it may not be his best
The video for Daniel’s Descent into Transitus Medley is the cheesiest thing I've seen in years: https://youtu.be/ozmTXh2CBWw
That may not be a completely bad thing, but damn.

I'd place this album somewhere in my top 10 of the last decade. Sleep at the Edge of the Earth would be in my top 3. I think this record strikes a fine balance between epic cinematic soundscapes, disney-esque cheesiness and aggressive proggy death metal. Ayreon, on the other hand, is just straight up cheese.

I remember the barrage of cheese grating on me and overpowering the rest of the dish. Maybe I should check again.

Yeah same. Listening to it again now and immediately in love with it again. Check out their new song Eg (but do it on spotify, the video is the shortened version), I think you'll enjoy it.

Fair enough. It's a 10 minute song that stands very well on its own though, but I get it .
