Souvenirs > Ecailles > Shelter > (Le Secret) > Voyages = Kodama > Spiritual Instinct
Agreed with the first two.

Not today pagebreak /Trif supporter.
>Ecailles > Kodama > SI > Voyages > Souvenirs > Shelter
This seems correct.

Talons, surely this is better than Shelter? I mean, I can sort of get behind the rest, but that just seems a tad off, no?

As dbizzles said on the previous page, this and Shelter aren't easy to compare.
Shelter is them at their purest post-rock/shoegaze form while this is their most aggressive and metal sounding, with less emphasis on big build-ups and climaxes. I personally prefer the former stylistically.
Shelter also holds nostalgia for me (but can't believe it's been over 5 years now) and I really enjoy the purely beautiful sound throughout. It still has the dynamics associated with their previous albums too; it's got tranquil and reflective moments, other times it's melancholic, and sometimes triumphant and joyful like poppier Sigur Ros songs.

Okay, fair enough. Contrarily, I found Shelter to be overly repetitive at times, and that somewhat ruins it for me.

This and Shelter are close for me. I'll probably need to hear this a few more times before I have a final opinion.

"Souvenirs is everything this project was ever meant to be"
his shrieks are fantastic though, that album is sorely missing them. this band is too fluffy for me when they don't commit to the bm

Egarran ♥
And agreed luci, it always feels like they're going to be there any moment but it never happens. It gets a little too angelic for my tastes when they're not used. And his shrieks are among the best in the business imo.

A little toothless tbh. No where near as wow as Kodoma

I've heard only 4 albums so far from them but it would be like this for me
Kodama = Ecailles > Spiritual Instinct > Shelter .
I like Kodama a little more maybe because is the album that introduced me to them and it was instant love, or maybe it is just that, I like it more but both are insanely good.

No matter how anyone feels about Shelter as a whole, can we at least agree that Voix Sereines is one of Alcest's best tracks?

It definitely is. It's also an album that knows what it's going for and it nails its vibes. Plus, it's more versatile than people give it credit for. Just because it doesn't have screams doesn't mean it isn't versatile by the standards of dream pop/shoegaze, and it definitely is. Opale, L'Éveil des Muses and Délivrance sound nothing alike.
This album is pretty great by the way. Still digesting.

Agreed w/ both of you. 2:47 of Voix Sereines is one of the bands best moments.
