I feel like i'm the only person that doesn't really know or hear the difference between the two singers. Like I know there are two, and I know how all the Menzinger's songs go and can sing along with them, but they sing in such a similar style nothing has ever really led me to try and figure it out who's who and I feel like I'm very much alone in this..

I used to confuse them but it's clear as day to me now

Dungeon I was saying the same thing in the After the Party thread. Now that someone pointed out which songs are sung by each, I can identify pretty well. But I still would agree with you that they are so similar at times that it almost doesn't matter

Listen to their harmonizing on Burn After Writing, the difference is pretty clear.

lol, I always thought both voices were Tom's. maybe that aint the best example unless I'm just dumb and never listened too closely

Tom has a much more traditionally punk kind of voice. Greg's is thinner, more coming from the head, but also the better singer as far as skill goes.

as far as harmonizing id probably go with the chorus of home outgrown as a way to tell whos who while theyre singing with each other

An example on their differences, on The Freaks: "My medicine puts you to SLEEP" the way he pronounces and enunciates the word "sleep" is not something Greg ever would do, thats a Tom thing.
I just dont know how you could ever not tell the difference in singing between, say, The Talk and Nothing Feels Good Anymore.
@bubs idk about that, i can actually understand people getting them mixed up on any album before On the Impossible Past. I think they started sounding more distinct on that album, and it could also be the better production.

idk those harms are like the earliest instance of them sounding different to me gregs kinda rounder fuller feeling voice pops out more while alongside toms more shrill piercing delivery. most of the other stuff around that time i cant tell the difference but thats one of the songs that helped me tell the difference pretty easily

It took me a while do differentiate Tom and Greg and an even fucking longer time to understand what the hell the lyrics were. I could never understand why I couldn't understand Greg for the longest time.
Best Tom song is The Talk btw.

been listening to this nonstop. it's inconsistent but quite a few treasures. wish the first half was more like the second half. "farewell youth" is one of my favourite songs this year, and "portland" is a big personal favourite too.
