lol I can understand not liking the style or sound of these guys as it caters to a specific crowd of an already 'niche' part of metal, but idk about the harsh songwriting criticism. Mordial is cohesive & flows well imo, only big complaint goes to naked fuse which pales as a closer compared to lights out.
metal aoty so far boys, although with the new cattle decap in november it's looking like a close race (intronaut early 2020 also)

fun album out of context to their discography, but i still agree, this album is like a Meta part 2, hence my 3 rating instead of a 3,5/4 one. but still, like i said, out of context to their discography, this is a great album. maybe that's just me though idk

To me it's like Meta but with more melodic spots to ease up the frantic weirdness. I love it! I just don't get the hate for them.
Rhythmic modulation, weird effects, permutation, brutality, it's all there! A lot of riffs within songs show up a second time, but having a changed measure and feel, so you have to consider them with respect to their previous version. That serves the broad definition of prog.

There were some good parts on this. I’ve been a fan of Car Bomb’s previous stuff. The ambient sections were enjoyable. Fade Out, Scattered Sprites, and Mordial are cool. But beyond that it’s just a lot of the same and anything “new” was kinda boring. Blackened Battery seemed like the band moving on from Meshuggah worship and replacing it with Metallica and it’s so bad. All of the clean vocals were lame and I felt they were trying to subvert melodic expectations for no reason. Most of this was unmemorable but I’m still looking forward to future releases. Hopefully they continue to tap into their wild screeching guitar bits and ambient soft sections but take them to the next level somehow.

I found this extremely dull and void of emotion. Nothing turns me off a project more than that (and why do those vocals sound so lifeless?)

Cleans are big corny, no doubt

" ......Scattered Sprites, and Mordial are cool" [2]
songs like Disect Yourself or Fade Out shouldn't exist tbh
|

Dissect Yourself is one of the only tracks I'll defend lol, it's not any good but those pewpewpews are cute

pewpewpoo more like, seriously though I agree... If an album makes very little sense, then we may as well have some cool sounding 'wacky' noises mixed in there somewhere, just to satisfy the notion that the whole thing is pretty much worthwhile for the novelty factor alone.

Hahaha you're talking to someone who worships Melt-Banana and gets a rush from Venetian Snares - random off-the-wall noises are always gonna lift my mood (even if the music in question sucks) [basically what Demon said lol]
