it is a long time :[ tbh the only Portishead associations I have are from the closer and some of those BCF inflections

The closer maybe but I don't see the connection with BCF.

"I'm not sure syrupy is the most representative qualifijective hm"

No perhaps not, I might have been overreacting, but I find those melodies super mega not-Portishead. The blu-uuue inflection I could see though, I give you that.

Just did not register as Portishead-y at all on first listen. It reminds me much more of an acoustic/more heavily orchestrated DJ Krush without the hip hop actually, especially the vocalist(s?).

Also the Roads strings are much sharper/fuller/more dissonant(without actually being dissonant), less whiny, that is what is wrong with the ones here. Especially those cellos from 5:00 onward. I don't like those. I think that is my main issue with what I described as 'strings' earlier.

Yeah it's lovely! Happy you made me check this.

Never bothered with them because of their band name, ooops. It always made me assume they were an indie rock band or something of the sort. Never expected this.

It’s a dud, aye. Not sure why anyone would associate a band with ‘orchestra’ in the name with indie rock though. You’d assume some sort of classical/jazz connection (if one was indeed assuming, no?)

Yes, true, but the '!' and the 'Fire' made me go all indie, and then I thought, 'oh well, they call themselves an orchestra, whatever, not worth my time.'

tbh branding yourself as an orchestra when you're not an orchestra is huge indie energy

I wouldn’t be necessarily expecting an actual orchestra either. I just wouldn’t associate this name with indie.

Either way it’s of little consequence, I’ll allow Trif’s subconscious to be wholly inaccurate and generally weird.

I don't know, cause it's great maybe?

‘Was this album ever actually popular tho?’

Actually? Probably not. Relative to other jazz? Hell yeah. And I’d say that’s a beautiful thing.

"I don't know, cause it's great maybe?"

Yeah, but it has mats gustafsson on it. Not exactly 'jazz music for people who don't like jazz`. It's not something I would expect to get a lot of attention. I find it interesting why certain things get popular.
