tracks 2 and 3 don't do much for me, but I love everything else here

Doof, as I’ve said I’m a hopeless fanboy, just a track’s being by The National unlocks emotions in me that almost nobody else can. Matt could be singing cake recipes and I’d still cry.

Once things head south fanboys unleash their vitriol more than anyone - I consider The National the best gig I’ve ever seen.

This fanboy might snap.

ButtB - track 3 is the only stain here for me

Yeah - I just don’t think the new songs indicate they’re heading south - at least not by more than a few degrees.

I’m having a really hard time with new music this year, lots of 3.5s but very little is clicking with me above that level.

Same here Boney. A lot of albums I like... but only a few I love.

This is heading for the "love" category though, in fact I daresay it's established itself as an AOTY contender for me. "Leave a Light" and "Race to the Bottom" are stunning.

I can't get enough of the first half. The second half I have to be in the mood for, but the whole thing is undeniably well-done.

The first half is growing on me but I don't really connect with anything after "The Closing Door" other than the closer.

Okay yeah, this officially rivals Jessica Pratt's Quiet Signs as my AOTY so far - 4 for now, could be a 4.5

The middle takes the slightest dip in quality but it's so gorgeously executed even at its weaker moments.

This is now the first album of 2019 to boast at least two 5/5 songs in my eyes; I listened to "Leave a Light" earlier this afternoon while sitting by a river and I let both the song, and the cool breeze off the water, wash over me. It was the most cleansing, healing experience I've had with music in a long time.

This and the Big Thief are that little bit above anything else I’ve listened to this year.

The Lambchop is excellent too but hasn’t got that extra special something those two have

Throw in Copeland and I'd completely agree, Doof. Lambchop's new one is great but as it's settled I've concluded that it just doesn't live up to Flotus.

Its a shade below Flotus.

There’s a pack of albums just below that are solid such as the Craig Finn, the Cass McCombs, the Avey Tare...it’s been a great year so far but only two AOTY contenders so far.

The Copeland I need to revisit yet again but I don’t think it’s my thing enough to join that group of albums.

Just listened again and the closer finally hit me - think it’s the overspill of emotion from the Spurs game last night
